The first week of school always makes me want to switch to first grade from kindergarten! I lost my voice today from spending 90 minutes at the end of the day trying to talk over a group of kids who were crying at the top of their lungs. I really love kindergarten and watching the things these kids learn in that year, but man, the first few days at my school are rough cause most of my kids have never been to preschool or away from mom at all and a lot of them don't speak any English. My feet are killing me cause I'm not used to being on my feet all day after the summer. I need to get in shape.

I think it's AMAZING how much the kids learn in kindergarten in a year! My hat goes off to you though for teaching all of those kids. It can't be easy! I think my patience would be totally fried by the end of the day haha

I have a hard time dealing with my one 4 year old, I can't imagine 10+ kindergartners at one time in one room. I'd want to pull my hair too.
I hope my DD will do okay when she starts in a few weeks. It's full day at our school - from 8:20am - 3pm. At least she'll be busy.
Hope tomorrow is better.

I hear you! I teach Pre-K, started this week, and we have a few newbies who are totally new to Day Care and also a couple that don't speak English, which is different for me I must say because I grew up in a non-diverse area and this is my first time working near a major city where it is diverse. Anyway, good luck to you! It is exhausting until the students get to know you and vice versa.

Definitely went smoother today even though I got 2 more students. That puts me at 25 kids. I miss smaller class sizes. I think most of the kids will be settled in by next week though. 7:30 to 2:30 is a long day for some of these kiddos. They have to figure out a whole new routine.
