London has an outie belly button and always have, but over the months it has started to really protrude out. I wish I could take a picture, but Im at work. If she is wearing a onsie it protudes out through her shirt and is VERY visible. Anyway at her 12 month appointment the doctor mentioned a belly button hernia and that she wasn't to concerned because it is not hard and you can push it back in. Also it normally corrects itself. Well I know of people having this but it gets better overtime. She had a normal looking belly button until about 6 monhts ago and I sware it looks like it is protruding more and more as the months go by. Advice needed. What do you know about them?

my middle niece Ella had one. Hers was protruding quite a bit. They let it go until she was about 3 (she's 5 now) b/c they can sometimes correct themselves. She ended up having it surgically fixed and it's completely fine now.

Sounds like it might be a hernia to me. Talk to your pedi and then get a second and a third opinion. Sometimes I really wonder if you can count on docs to lead you right.

Good luck!

they mostly correct themselves. the doctor waited awhile for Ella's before he said surgery looked like the only option.

Both my twins had them from being premature, and they both went away on their own by the time they were 1 year old.

I remember how they used to "squish " if she squeezed them a little bit.

My niece had one and no surgery was needed. The only problem they had with it was that the doctor recorded it and then my sister had to fight with a new insurance company to get her daughter covered because of this pre-existing condition that needed absolutely no treatment and went away on it's own.
