How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? Ive just taught her not to run up to strange animals or play with them until mommy or daddy ok's it. I just told her and tell her that anytime we see a strange animal.

we had a small dog. she is great around kids. however when i got put on bed rest with kenna my sil and bil took her so i wouldn't have to worry about getting up and down the stairs to let her in and out. then when zach got his job here, we were unsure if we were at first going to rent an apt before finding a house and then dealing with one that accepted dogs and moving with her and it just wasn't looking doable. so we let sil and bil keep her. she's super happy there and loves it.
we do have 2 outdoor cats. they are no trouble, the one is old and never really moves off the deck and the other one is young and he comes and goes as he pleases.
i will be getting a dog within the next couple years. i don't want a dog and a baby though. i have lots and lots of patience and i rarely yell or raise my voice at my kids. that isn't the same for dogs and puppies though they irritate me. so i'd much rather wait until my kids can ALL help hahahahahahaha!
we are unsure on what kind of dog though. i go back and forth from a lab to something cute and little like a pug lol

Do you have a pet? Yes
What kind?Bella (5) a Weimaraner, Scout (8) a Miniature Schnauzer, & Rick a Betta fish. (Ben, the other one, died about two weeks ago. I felt sad, LOL)
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Bella and Scout stay away from Sophie for the most part, well Scout more than anything because he's older and sleeps a lot. Bella will lay down and let Sophie crawl all over her, it seems like the older Sophie gets they pay more attention to her because she thinks it's funny to feed them.
How do your kid/s act around your pet? She is always so excited anytime they do something, sometimes Bella will chase Scout and she claps and screams because she's excited about it.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? Well, it's important to let the dogs know that the baby is their "boss" too, so originally we would make the dogs lay down while Sophie touched and rubbed on them...when she would get too rough we would tell her "gentle" (I don't like her to pull on the dogs ears) You just watch them, we also practice with stuffed animals (ex: "Love your puppy")

Do you have a pet? 2 of em
What kind? kittehs!
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Koshka (female cat) mostly stays out of her way when Ali's awake.. but when she's sleeping Koshka likes to cuddle with her. Chernyy (male cat) is Ali's best buddy. They cuddle all the time and play together. Chernyy loves it when Ali pets him!
How do your kid/s act around your pet? Ali's pretty good with them. She isn't mean, and pets them fairly gently. When she can't find her Chernyy, she gets very sad.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? We honestly let the cats teach her what is and isn't ok. She pulled Koshka's tail once and got swatted (no claws) by the kitty. She hasn't done it since.

Do you have a pet? Yes!
What kind? A golden retriever.
How does your pet act around your kid/s? She's very sweet and gentle. That's why she still lives with us.
How do your kid/s act around your pet? Loves her. If Juliana's fussy I can call Fedora in and she'll be laughing in no time.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? I try to tell her to be gentle to the puppy but it doesn't sink in yet. Luckily Fedora likes the abuse.

Do you have a pet? yes
What kind? am 8 year old cat, Azrael
How does your pet act around your kid/s? She will let them pet her for a minute then she walks away and ignores them
How do your kid/s act around your pet? Caleb laughs at the cat but leaves her alone. Grace has learnt that when the cat walks away she needs "Alone time"
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? Grace has learned from experience. She tried to pick the cat up once (HUGE cat) and she got bit..not bad but enough to get her attention. She hasn't tried to pick up the cat since. Caleb we tell, "Gentle".

How does your pet act around your kid/s? They all dont mind her
How do your kid/s act around your pet? Shes quite good, she can be rough but we have been teaching her from an early age to pat nicely
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? Just show her how to be gentle. She picked it up pretty quickly. She was 'patting' another baby at child care not too long ago haha

Do you have a pet? Yes
What kind? Great Dane, Jasmine, 8 years old and a Beta fish named Alpha
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Very good now! We had thought about having to find her a new home, but she adjusted very quickly and now loves Emily and lets her crawl all over her. She is very large, so the only minor problem is she occasionally bumps into Emily, but shes pretty old and fat, so she never moves really quick.
How do your kid/s act around your pet? She loves her! Everything Jasmine does makes Emily giggle. She loves "petting" her and sitting beside her.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? We practice correct petting...sometimes she forgets and still wants to eye-gouge and stick her finger in her ear/nose/mouth.

Do you have a pet? Yes
What kind? 2 cats
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Our siamese cat loves, loves, loves attention so he often lays down for attention from Aaron. Our black cat prefers the solitary life so she hides in our room 90% of the day and runs from Aaron when theirs paths do cross.
How do your kid/s act around your pet? He gets so excited around them and wants to love on them.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? We have some issues with Aaron being too rough trying to pet but we're working on and making progress with teaching him to be gentle. Tippy (our siamese) is super laid back so if Aaron grabs at him he doesn't really care but we'll remove his hand from the cat and show him how to pet correctly. Tippy is an awesome learning tool. LOL

Do you have a pet? Yup, 2 of them
What kind? Cats, Winson a lynx point siamese and Katrina, a chubby calico
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Winston pretty much stays in a different room from Wyatt. He is pretty sound sensitive so he doesn't care to be around kids, Katrina doesn't really care and likes almost any attention
How do your kid/s act around your pet? Wyatt loves animals, including his kitties. He is pretty gentle petting them now
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? example and helping him pet nicely....we are still working on not trapping them in a corner

Do you have a pet? Yes, 3 in fact
What kind? 2 cats and a dog (puppy actually)
How does your pet act around your kid/s? Our cats sleep with my 5yo at night and they love all the kids. Our dog loves them, plays with them, but sometimes wants to be left alone by them!
How do your kid/s act around your pet? They are good for the most part although Cady can sometimes get too rough with the puppy and we have to remind her to be nice.
How did you teach your kid/s manners around animals? By example. It's the best way honestly. We are nice to the animals and expect them to be too. Even Ethan knows "Be gentle, pet nice". We take his hand and pet the dog gently, he smiles and giggles and then he mimics it.
