What time does your LO go to bed? What about if you have older children?

Toby is always in bed by 7. Every night. The older 2 are usually in bed by half 7 and asleep not long after. I ask because, our new neighbours have kids aged 9 and 6. They had been playing out with Seth and Caspar yesterday, during the day. My boys came in at about 5, had tea and bath, then to bed. Anyway, at 9pm last night the little 6 year old girl came knocking on our door, asking if Seth could play out.... Am I the only one that thinks this is nuts? My kids are only 6 and 4, there is no way I would let them play out past 6 when its light like this, but especially not at 9! This kid wasn't even with her Mum, and it was dark. I walked her back to her house (even though its next door) because I felt worried for her being on her own at that time. Something tells me I'm going to have to avoid this family... Sorry that turned into a little rant!

My girls' bed time is 9pm but we are always outside, and to be honest, we are usually outside with our neighbors and their kids until at least 8 or 8:30 then bath and bed. A few times this summer we have put Kaileigh down at 9 and let the oldest play while we're outside until 10pm, but that is rare and it's probably been a month since we've done it. We are all very close and even eat dinner or cook out a lot, if it wasnt for having them we wouldnt be out so late though.

Leah is in bed by 9. Sometimes earlier/later, really just depends on how our day went. The earliest would be 8:15. The latest would be about 10:30. The later she goes to bed doesn't affect what time she wakes up. She pretty much religiously wakes at 7:30ish

London 8:30 and Caden 9:00pm. On the weekends Caden gets to stay up until 930 (you think what's 30 minutes...lol..but to a 4 year old its the best thing since sliced bread)

Maggie is in bed religiously between 7:30 and 8:30. I would have had the same reaction you had. When I was that age, my mom had me in bed by 7. Staying up til 8 or 9 was a real treat. Summers were a bit different when we were a bit older (like 9) and then we had to be in the house before the street lights came on. But times are way different now. I don't think I'd be comfortable with maggie being outside unaccompanied at any time of day until she's a teenager...and then it won't be my choice, it'll be something I have to simply get over.

My 4 year old goes to sleep at 7 everynight. He doesn't nap during the day, but will sleep 12 hours at night, so we do that. Daniel goes to bed right after that. I have to do his nebulizer after my 4 year old is in bed because it scares him. Then Sarah Beth goes to bed around 8. Our neighbors have kids that are 8 and 10 and they play until later in the evening. They know when the kids go to bed, though. Maybe you can just have a conversation about when your kids go to bed and they'll respect that. We live in the middle of nowhere and I don't really mind the kids being out after dark, but I understand it is different in some places.

Yeah we live in London, and even though its not central, we are still on a very busy road. I watched a programme about Jaycee Dugard the other night and the fact she was taken on her own road scared the hell out of me. Times now are so dangerous and to let a 6 year old out at night on her own where we are is not good. She only lives next door but its far enough for someone to take her. Plus, literally 2 weeks ago, over 800 people were arrested in London for rioting over 5 days for NO reason. Its so dangerous here at the moment, I don't even feel safe!

What did the mom say when you returned her child? Was she oblivious?
That's just craziness. We were watching the footage of the London riots here. Not a chance would I let Maggie out alone in the midst of that kind of chaos, at age 6, 16, 26, 36...I'm so glad you took her home.

My kids are in bed by 7 or 730 and the thought of kids being outside playing that late at night is just crazy to me. It weirds me out that I can still hear my neighbours kids awake/playing in their house really late at night. I mean each to their own but when do you get time to yourself if your kids are up all night? Stuff that!!

She seemed surprised my boys were in bed, and also slightly surprised that I had walked her back. She said I didn't need to. I felt I did! The Wood Green riots were a mile from us. We are only about 6 miles from Enfield and Islington where some of the major riots went on too.

I agree Karlie. I need that quiet time before I go to bed without the kids. I love them to death but I couldn't have them up until I go to bed too.

8:30 for the 6 yr old, with a 9 or 9:30 sometimes on the weekend. She wakes up at 6:30-7am. The baby goes to bed sometime around her sister's, but that's mostly up to her and whether she had her regular naps or not.

That's insanity.

Glad you stayed out of the fray of those riots. That's awfully close for comfort though.

I start to get Ty and Julia to bed at 7:00 - 7:30 everynight unless we are doing something, its real hot in the house (no air conditioning), we are gone or our family is over etc., then they could be up till 9 or later depending. But on a normal just us at home night, I try for 7-7:30. Also though, Ty and Julia are up at 5:30-6am everyday too, so they are very tired by that time of night. I have always put my kids to bed early. I need my nights.period. I give all I have to my kids all day long so by nighttime, I need sometime to recharge.

I agree with you, as I would never let my kids outside alone, especially at night. I am over-protective of my kids and thats just the way it is. When I was 11 y/o, a man and a woman in a car tried to abduct me and my younger siblings out of our own driveway. Too many pyschos running around IMO.
