DH and I are getting ready to go visit the in-laws for about 9 days. We go every year. We're getting a rental car, and we can rent a car seat from them for $40. But we go every year, so we'd have to do the same thing next year. I don't remember when they usually graduate to a booster seat, but between car seat and booster seat I figure we have several more years. We might be better off buying a car seat and leaving it at MIL's. Can anyone recommend an inexpensive car seat (since it will only be used about 10 times) that converts to a booster seat? Maybe they all do - I just haven't read up on car seats beyond the kind the LOs are in now. We need it a week from today so I'd ideally like to buy something on Amazon and have it shipped to MIL's. Otherwise, we can have MIL run into Wal-mart or Target and pick it up for us. Thanks!

Honestly, I would copy exactly what you put here over to the car seat board. There are a few cheap options but the ladies over there could explain the pro's and con's of each one. They have helped me a lot with questions.

yes i would ask there are lots of carseats that convert to a booster but the only problem is you can't rear face them. there is one that goes from 5 pounds to a booster but i can't remember what it is or if it's a good rated one.

yes, like Kristen said, most of the car seats I can think of either have a decent rf limit, but a 40lb ff limit but no booster option. Lots of options for ff to booster, but not any I can think of for rf-booster.

I use a myride in my van, but it doesnt go to booster. I will buy a nauti when she outgrows the myride. We have an evenflo tribute which was only $60 for dh's vehicle. It's never used (well, maybe 4 times? so far) but even it wont go to booster.

Hope they can help you over there.

We were in a similar situation. The one from walmart made by Cosco is really highly rated and only 40 bucks. They carry it in almost every store.

Cosco Scenera is what its called....great safety ratings. Doesn't look like much but it works.

I just went over to the cd board to see what they said, and I have the myride and if it helps your decision, My 4 yr old, who is in the 95% for heigth and 50% for weight could fit in the myride REARFACING. When I tried her in it FF she still has quite a few inches or 25-30 lbs before she would outgrow it. So if you got the myride Im sure you would be able to use it until at least age 4 maybe longer. It's 40lb rearfacing, and 65lb FFing. It doesnt go to booster though.

Let us know what you decide to do.

by the way here she is trying it out RFing you can see she is long legged.

I order the Myride! It was a little more than we wanted to spend for something that will be used just a few times, but at least it will last us years so that we shouldn't have to replace it.
