yo gabba has the best messages seriously, it's all around awesome. it's one of the only shows outside of pbs and sprout we watch!
p.s. i hate when parents diss it when they've never really seen it it's a REALLY good show and has great lessons, it's just more modern and hip at the same time. i have nothin' but love for yo gabba!

I really like it too. We sing "There's a party in my tummy" ALL the time at the dinner table. My kids will try things if I just sing, "Try it, you might like it." LOL.

Yay! I have been a fan of YGG since my friend's daughter was born in 2007, I think YGG "came out" that same year so for her 1st Christmas I bought all sorts of YGG stuff for her, when I would watch her (when she was older) she would just dance and dance to it....so I was SO excited when Sophie actually did like the show! They have really cool celebs and bands that come and play, it's almost like a Sesame Street for hipsters, LOL
NOW you have to go to Yo Gabba Gabba live! They are on tour again this year (We're going in November!!! We got VIP passes so we're meeting the cast + DJ Lance! I'm going to be more excited than 1/2 the kids there, LOL!)

Totally, if you sit down and listen to everything there are so many good messages. Even the cartoons and random bits in between (like songs, etc.) have good messages.
I love "Party in my Tummy" and "Don't Bite your Friends", but another favorite is "You can't always get what you want"
THE YO DAZZLERZ - You cant always get what you want - Yo Gabba Gabba - YouTube
P.S. - I hate that too!

Or Baby Steps/Baby Teeth

My 6 yr old loves to dance and sing with it, which is better than her vegging out with other shows. LO hasn't really shown much interest in tv till this past week- she's been too busy finding mischief, and I'm glad of it! But when she does start, I can't think of anything more visually or musically pleasing (My nieces were the Barney generation! "I love you, you love me..." It's burned into my brain! )

I watched Barney the other day when Sophie was napping (LOL I know that sounds weird, but I like to check out the stuff before I introduce it to her!) and they had really good messages too like YGG! I just love YGG too much :X
The only downside of YGG is that all the merchandise is soooo hard to find. I found a store on Etsy that did Me, Sean, & Sophie custom shirts for YGG live but most of the other shops had to stop because they got letters for copyright infringement.

Sydney used to like watching it (hasn't in a bit now b/c we aren't home the time it's on). she pretty much only watches Sesame Street now. I used to like Yo Gabba Gabba -- love the celebs they have on!
Holly -- I was so anti Barney and just like you I watched it one day and was surprised that I actually didn't mind it. Sydney seems to like it to if it's on when we are at home. She pretty much likes anything with music in it though - I've caught her dancing to random commercials!

I never wanted to watch Barney until one day it happened to be on. I really don't mind it either. And my 4 year old, who can't really talk yet, SINGS "I love you, you love me..." to me. There is never a song I have loved to hear more.

So I will admit, the 4 minutes she was actually mesmerized by the show, I didn't hate it.
But we have avoided all things "weird" or pervasive from day one. This has included purple dinosaurs, and YGG, Dora and Diego and most of the stuff on Treehouse for two primary reasons: I wanted her to relate to the characters and learn the value of story, but I also wanted her to understand these stories in English. I believe most kids programming contains the right messages, so that is no reason to avoid any of it, but I did want her to learn english. My exposure to the Treehouse channel prior to this was limited to Toopy and Binoo (which I ok'd on the principle that it supported the rights of a cross dressing mouse), and Franny's Feet (Canadian content), but was riddled with far more episodes of In the Night Garden and Waybuloo which neither can be said to have any relative connection to a human species or an english language. They both still convey good messages, And I honestly tried to watch them, but for the limited time she is watching tv, I want her to make the best possible connections with what she is watching, and since I have to watch it too, I opt for Little Einsteins over Barney.
We have indeed enjoyed the Disney channel. I find the content just as educational and entertaining, and they speak English and Spanish. If we could just import Ni Hau Kai Lan and Toopy over to the Disney channel, she could groove to Imagination Movers, and learn 3 different languages, and learn to be accepting of people who are different from her, all while learning the value of "pretend" all at the same time.
Whew...the dilemnas of children's programming! Who knew it could be so controversial! hahahaha

Loved the Jack Black episode! So funny. He cracks me up so much.
We watch YGG over here too. Bella and Eli both love Barney too. I've never understood the hatred towards Barney. Horrible for kids to learn to be kind to others, play well together, along with countless other moral lessons, right? The music on these shows is so attractive to kids and good for them too!

I dont know what it is, but I just dont like YGG. Yes they send good messages but I dont know. It's like scraping nails on a chalk board for me. Id much rather listen to Kai Lan or Fresh Beat Band and recently Super Why (thanks Kristen!). Although Kaitlyn is much more into icarly , wizards of waverly place, and Big Time Rush now and actually find myself watching those with her in the evening...ha ha! With Kaileigh she doesnt even care about tv, she is busy running laps around the house and getting into things and her attention span is 0 right now. lol

Oh my gosh! Barney plays 24/7 in my house. Aidyen is totally obsessed..everytime we go to the store he has to get a new Barney DVD and I don't mind it Barney actually has really good messages like Yo Gabba Gabba. Aidyen actually learned how to pick up his toys and put garbage away from Yo Gabba Gabba
