I am not one to ever have a Christmas present ready this early (present is washed and wrapped already) but thanks to your brilliant idea I am ahead of the game. Here it is- a dinosaur knot blanket for my friends baby boy. I really like the googly eyes.

And this time I had a 50% coupon for the fabric- I only paid $8 for one fabric. I think that's reasonable.

So simple I am sure someone will post a link to official directions, but all you do is get two pieces of fabric (I normally use fleece) of the same size. Doing one a pattern and one a coordinating solid is always cute but two solids would look nice too.
For a child I normally do 2- 1 yard pieces. Adults 2- 2 yard pieces. Super tall guys like my hubby get 2.5 yards.

You just lay them on top of each other (nice sides outwards on both) and then use fabric scissors to cut about 2ish inches inwards and then tie knots. I do a diagonal cut around the corners but I am not sure if that is an "official" thing or just my own twist . The fabric may bunch a little as you tie knots, but I just stretch it back out. It may sound like it's tearing a little, but it's not (99% of the time).

super fun project and with coupons makes a great gift!

I made a post about making a knot tie blanket for Bishop's birthday since he has a crapload of toys already from his brothers. Then others started making their own and posting about them

I also do what Lisa said, except instead of diagonal corners I cut squares out, the same length so 2x2. I do the same yard sizing for adult and children also.

It's very simple and even the non craftiest person can do it! We love them and I make one for my boys every year.

I had never heard of this before the posts here, either.

If you do make a blanket I suggest getting a coupon for the fabric (they have a lot of choices at the store- be prepared to wander around the aisles), getting a pair of fabric scissors, and when it's time to make the blanket pin the 2 blankets together w/ clothespins to hold the 2 in place when you are cutting. I cut out a cardboard square and a cardboard strip that I can use again. Here is a link on how to make one:

How to Make a Tie Fleece Blanket

I am going later to Joann's fabric to pick out yet another fabric for my friends' daughters' birthday. One thing about being invited to birthday parties... it does get expensive to buy presents!

Definitely get on a mailing list with JoAnn or your local fabric store. It saves you $ when it comes to buying fabric.

I love JoAnn's because they always send me awesome coupons like 50% off and you can catch the anti-pill fleece on sale 99% of the time.

Celine, I am sooooo in love with that blanket! The fabric is just awesome.
