So he has an infection in his finger (if you haven't read about it on fb, here is a blog post about it Mama's Outnumbered: A little break, please?) and they told me if it doesn't look any better in 2 days to go to this Dr.
It's labor day, how am I supposed to do that?! So I'll probably have to go back to urgent care.
Do you know how hard it is to keep a band-aid on a 1 year old? Let alone his finger? Where he continues to suck it off! It's driving me nuts. I'm all out, I have 1 left and that's it. We have tried other ways to keep it on but this kid is like Houdini. He takes his medicine no problem, which is good.
It's frustrating! I want it better. I'm doing everything I should be and yet it's not. I'm probably going to have to suck it up and buy a hand wrap or something of the sort for him to keep on.

He had a lump on his neck before thanksgiving here in 2009. He turned one a few days later.
Here is a post I made on my livejournal about it.
Quote:
For those of you who don't know, Dane was taken by ambulance (not rushed) to a Childrens hospital 2 1/2 hours from where we live. The lump on his neck just had me worried and something in me said this wasn't right. So Monday at 9pm he was admitted to our local hospital ER. The rest of it is in this summary i put on a forum I belong to. So, I just C&P it.
This was posted on there yesterday.
o start it all off, around 830pm last night I looked at his lump and noticed that it just didn't look right. It was bigger and was a bright red which looked like it was starting to go purple. I called my mom after talking to Jason and she said she'd take Gage. I got him and Dane ready to go and went to drop him off. I guess during that time she decided to go with me. So we went to the ER. Got there around 9pm.
We got in pretty much right away and they decided to take blood along with doing a CAT scan. Jason was still at work. He got there just as they were getting ready to put in the IV. My mom took Gage out of the room and Jason and i stayed to help hold Dane down. Ugh, that broke my heart. They got the blood that they needed and set up his IV for fluids since he wasn't taking hardly any during the day. Jason then took my mom and Gage home so we'd only have one car at the hospital and since we didn't know how long it would take. As they left, they came to get Dane for his CAT scan. So I left with him.
Jason got back in time for the results. The results, ugh. It was an abscess and it went deep into the tissues. So, we were then told he would have to be transferred. We didn't know why at first. Then the ER doctor told us because on a baby his size (well age range) they didn't have the equipment or staff to handle the surgery. So we were being sent to a Childrens hospital. Off to Grand Rapids we went, which is 2 hours from where we live. What worried us the most was the ambulance. That caught us off guard, big time. It made worry that we could have avoided had they explained things better to us, but they didn't really. Jason went to my moms to get Gage and pack up some stuff while I went into the ambulance with Dane. We left at 1 and got here at 3am. I was exhausted, Dane slept the whole way down, I tried but it was so uncomfortable.
We got here, they brought us up and put us in his room. I spoke with 3 doctors and a nurse, they knew everything already and we were told that we'd see the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) doctor in the morning about the surgery. I got Dane to settle with Cars and I laid on the little fold out couch. 630am I was finally able to get sleep as Dane had finally crashed again. I woke up at 930 and we hadn't seen the ENT yet. We had no real clear answer as to what was going on, leaving us pretty much worried about it all still. It wasn't until noon that we saw the doctor. Jason had taken Gage to my SIL's in the town next to GR and she kept him all of today. So he was able to spend the day with me. The doctor came in told us what had happened more likely.
They believe from the CAT scan that the lump/abscess was caused by drainage from his nose to his adnoids. While those both look fine now, it seems that when it drained into his adnoids it caused the cyst which I guess led to the abscess. He told us it was very common on babies Dane's age and he sees several of them a month. That was fine and dandy, except It was my kid and nobody has even told us anything similar to this at all. Here we were thinking they were going to cut him open and rip something out.
They took him back and sedated him and lanced the abscess. He did good and they got the fluids and puss out. He told us however that it didn't look very formed yet, so, we're not out of the clear. I will be staying here tonight and every doctor we see keeps mentioning the word "Days" so I have a feeling we'll be hanging out here for a few days. He has been sleeping all day. I have pictures of him on my phone but can't for the life of me figure out how to upload them or e-mail them to myself. Everytime I try it doesn't work.
The scare and worry came from the ambulance and the immediate transfer. From the minute they told us to when we left was 15 minutes. I had to write a quick list for Jason on what he needed to grab. I had to call my mom and let her know and then she said she'd watch our dogs for us. After that, Dane and I were gone and on our way.
We're about 2 1/2 hours from home and i'm very thankful Jason's sister doesn't live far from here. Gage was my worry (aside from Dane) because he's energetic and I didn't know what we'd do with him during the days. They are staying in a hotel tonight and more than likely will stay at his sisters tomorrow if we have to stay again. i'm hoping we'll be able to leave tomorrow, but I am not holding my breath. They want to keep giving him antibiotics and see the fluid levels and if the puss stuff comes back. I am unsure of what his current temp is so I don't know if he's running a fever. I don't think he is at the moment. If he isn't, I think that's a good thing.
I'm sorry if I scared you guys, I was beyond worried myself. I didn't knwo what to make of the situation. We thought that we'd have it done there. I'm glad i listened to my gut. Something wasn't right and it was screaming so I left and took him.

After that, we then had to go back 2 1/2 hours away (in winter so it took longer, we normally can make it in 1 1/2) and he had to be admitted as an out patient and have it drained again. It was a horrible time And because my husband left to be with his son, did give warning to work, that is when everything went down hill for all that. They basically started screwing him over.

Oh my goodness. Hope the infections clears up quick. Have you tried putting a finger tip rubber thingy on his finger. They sell them in the pharmacy or maybe put a glove on him. I know he'll probably take that off too. What about those tapes you can put on around the band aid. He wouldn't be able to remove that.
BTW - Dane and Bishop look so alike in the pic.
