No, Ty does not eat anything in his carseat. Of course its hard to eat pureed baby food while in ones carseat

Julia on the other hand, at 6 y/o, she always eats in her carseat.

Nope. I don't even give her a sippy while we're driving after I read the story about how hard toys/sippies can become dangerous in an accident.

^ it's not just sippies. it's ANYTHING you have in your car that is NOT strapped down. a pen, a book, purse a cd....

that said, it's one of those things i choose to do what i can and not worry about the rest. i do let her have a sippy but no food. she has a history of cramming too much in her mouth and choking.

As a rule, no, only because of the mess it leaves behind. But on longer trips like we just had (2.5 hours each way), sometimes it's not all that practical a rule. I think there's a point at which baby proofing becomes irrelevant. I completely comprehend the physics of the sippy cup in an accident, and I'm not saying we should go out of our way to put our kids in harm's way, but you could replace that with almost anything - toys, headphones, ipods, nintendo ds', cell phones, gps units...the list goes on and on. I think the value of letting your kid snack or drink in the car far outweighs the risk of losing your concentration and the resulting migraine due to a tantruming child.

Don't get me wrong though...My ears are on high alert when I give her anything in the back seat so that I am ready to react in case of a choking emergency, and since we got home yesterday that car seat cover is screaming at me to be taken off so that the inside of the carseat can be vaccumed out.

Agreed ^^

My Dad lives 3+ hours away. If we are going to visit him then its just not practical to not let the kids eat in the car. Tbh I always have food and drinks to hand in the car wherever we go. I like to be over prepared and it means not wasting money buying junk for them to eat, which is often all you can get on the road. I generally don't give him anything unless one of the other boys or Chris or I are in the back with him, just incase he chokes, as he likes to shovell it all in very quickly

I let her eat. Not a full blown meal of course but yeah, I hand her a cracker or a cookie, some cheerios, things like that. I don't let her eat out at all at this point, so I always have food on me for her when we are out and about. I won't let her eat out anywhere until she's older and can talk and can tell me if she is reacting to something. I also give her a sippy cup - she usually throws it, but she can still have it.

I agree with Kristen and Becky. We do have it as a generally rule not to, but it really depends on the circumstance. Now I do allow a sippy only, but caden will hand it to me once I feel she has had enough. Now because I have more than one kid I will not give Caden a snack if London can't have one.

Only when there is someone in the backseat with Wyatt does he get any kind of snacks....occasionally he gets the rest of his breakfast milk if we need to get out the door and that is in a sippy straw cup.

Sippy yes, and if Kaitlyn is with us I will let her eat some cheerios or her puff snacks back there but if Im alone with her no eating at all because I cant see her.

Same rules for Kaitlyn, mainly because I cant allow Kaitlyn to eat something but say Kaileigh cant. Thats not fair so no snacks unless both are back there, and the snack choice is limited.

I ditto about the flying object thing. ANYTHING loose is a hazard including those DVD players on the back of the seats some people use, along with anything under the seats or even up front or in the back of my van. I couldnt survive with out my bag of toys I have sitting on the floorboard for the kids. Kaileigh already screams all the time in her seat so variety of toys are a must for us.

The only thing I let Aidyen have in his carseat are those plum organics baby food pouches and only if my older son is back there with him. No sippy because everytime he drinks out of one he chokes on the liquid which is usually only water.

I do the same Kim, I let Leah have those baby food pouches sometimes if we're on a long trip, and she's getting antsy...then 30 seconds later she's pissed again bc the pouch ran out, lol. I'm trying to get her off of her paci, so I don't give it to her in the car anymore. Car rides have been horrid since then.

Is Kenna the only one that can't be trusted with a pouch?! She loves to squirt them out all over herself and "paint"

Not at all...mine can be trusted so well that I won't even try buying one to watch the experiment fail. As soon as she figured out how to squeeze it, it would be everywhere...she would tear it open with her teeth if she couldn't squeeze it out.

Aaron can't and he's never had one. He destroys everything he touches so I won't even buy him the pouches.

We just went on a 17 hour car ride yesterday (yes, in one day) and I let him have a sippy of water and mum mums while going down the road. We stopped for everything else. He stuffs his face and I don't trust him not to choke.

I said "yes, but rarely". I'm ok with giving him a sippy of water while we're driving, but food, not so much. I did bribe him to be quiet with a few french fries on the drive home on Sunday.
