So Wyatt has never been a great sleeper, but for the last little while we've gotten to a point where it was manageable. He would wake one or two times a night, but if we laid him down, tucked him in and gave him his paci, he would go right back to sleep.

This past week has been horrendous! He wakes between 11:30 and 12:30 and screams for hours! The first couple of nights I brought him into bed with us and he was restless but slept for the most part. DH gave me a hard time for bringing him into bed with us again so we tried to get him to go back to sleep in his own bed. When he wakes, he is up crying and screaming for about 3 hours! Last night he was even screaming when I brought him into bed with us again.

I've tried everything I could think of:
-paci
-changed his wet diaper
-cuddling - he didn't want any part of that, he kept squirming out of my arms
-a bottle of milk - he hasn't eaten during the night since 9 months
-rubbing his back
-watching Sesame Street - I have no idea why I did that one!
-noise machine

There are a number of factors going on in our lives right now:
-cutting his canine teeth - been using Advil, Tylenol and even Orajel (I don't even like using that stuff)
-I went back to work this week - but the first couple of episodes occurred two nights before I went back to work
-night terrors? - not sure about this one. I need to pay more attention to see if he still asleep during the screaming
-not eating a lot during the day because of his teeth (I think)

So, anyone have anything else I could try? Or guesses which could be the culprit? I feel like I have a newborn again. Going to work on 3 hours sleep is not working out too well!

Now that you mention it, Kellen has been waking more frequently too?! I think I've been sleepwalking and haven't really processed that this has been occurring. I caved a couple nights ago and brought him a bottle in bed. He does the same thing, he hits the paci away, hits the bottle away, and acts like he wants to get down and play.

My guess is that it's a growth spurt and/or teeth and that this phase will pass. I recommend just staying consistent and trying to put them back to sleep with as little commotion as possible. Not the best advice, I'll admit, so I'm anxious to see what the other Mommies say!

I agree with Alicia! I think the combo of teething and other changes is the culprit. Hang in there!

We were dealing with this until a couple nights ago. We found that taking all her stuffies out of her crib seems to help. I'm not sure why, but it does.

Hug...I'm wondering if it isn't a teething, growth spurt and growing pains all together too. I know that Maggie had a few nights last week or the week before and they weren't easy, but they weren't half as bad as you're describing. Does rocking help at all? I know it helps Maggie. What if DH tries one of the times to get up with him...maybe he just needs Daddy instead?

Uggh. I feel so bad for you. It's not easy going back to work in the first place. Never mind adding all this on top.

We were up again last night! This time instead of just popping in and leaving quickly, I stayed and lay on the floor for a bit. He tried to go back to sleep, but after a few minutes would just pop right up again. Then he screams and tries to climb out of crib. I finally caved and brought him in with us and he tossed, turned, crawled, etc for another 1.5 hours until he passed out. At least he wasn't screaming! I agree it's probably a combination of stuff. DH finally agreed that if he needs to sleep with us, then so be it.

Bigger hug! Poor little guy. Honestly, whenever Maggie is sick, we do the rocking thing...and I've very often caught myself sleeping with her on me in that rocking chair for hours on end. So sorry you're dealing with it.
