It was the first day of school for my DD#2...sniff...sniff... It was so strange to see her standing there with the other kids. She's been home with me for the past year, while I was on mat leave and now my little big girl is going to school. I know she'll love it there.

isn't she my DD's age? why does she get to go to school this year?

She'll be 4 on Sept. 20. She was born in 2007. I think as long as you are within the same year you get to start JK this year. When is your DD's birthday?

in ontario as long as you were born in the right calendar year (so 2007) you can start school this year, is it different in NS? or do you not have Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten

her birthday is November 22, she was also born in 2007. in NS we have grade primary through 12, and in order to start primary you have to be 5 by December 31 of the same year. so Rebecca will start school next September, when she is still 4, turning 5. and this is a new rule, the cutoff date used to be October 1, which means if she was going to school then she wouldn't be allowed to start until September 2013, and at that point she would be turning 6. which I think is crazy, because she is ready for school NOW haha. as it is, we have the option to send her in 2012 or 2013.

after primary do they go right to grade 1?

yeah, primary then one, two, three, and so on.

She had a great day. She was in a bit of a daze when she came home and really tired. Basically lay down on the couch and fell asleep for an hour. I asked her what she did and she said "it's too much to tell you I'm tired." haha...miss smarty pants.
