I don't think I am ever going to get Tommy off the bottle. He relies on it to go to sleep. He will scream until he gets it. I have no idea how I am going to wean him off? Anyone else weaning? How is it going? What are you doing?

Is it a bad thing that he wants the bottle? I mean I am still breastfeeding and Sophia screams if she doesn't get the boob before bed. I think a bottle is already much better than the boob. You are way ahead of the game IMO.

keep in mind he JUST turned one. he doesn't HAVE to give it up yet if he isn't ready. my DD was almost 2 when she finally gave hers up, and DH's aunt still gives her 2.5 year old a bottle before bed, but this is the same woman who gave her DD a bottle before bed up until the night before her 4th birthday, which is a little too extreme if you ask me LOL

I weaned Hallie over to this sippy.

I took the handles off too. She still gets this sippy with warm milk at night. I will gradually wean her off of the milk right before bed...but I'm in no hurry for that. She does really well with it and weaned over pretty easily. Good luck!

I don't necessarily think it's a bad thing either but I am so afraid that he is going to get bad teeth from it, plus I remember when dd turned one her dr said take it from her cold turkey but she didn't rely on the bottle, so she didn't care. Plus everyone I know says you NEED to get him off that bottle...uggh...I think I really just feel pressured that it needs to go.

Thanks for the advice Jeanie. Do you know who makes it? Tommy will take one but not with milk in it, he doesn't have any he loves. He prefers a bottle of a sippy cup at any time of the day. I think I am only going to give him one at nap times and bed time. The rest of the day he will get a cup.

Ross still takes his bottle, I thought it would bother me but honestly i dont really care, hes still so young and if he still needs it, im ok with it. Hes not going to take a bottle with him to first grade so in the grand scheme of things its not really a huge deal if he takes a bottle until 2 or even 3

thats just me though, ive learned Ross is a stubborn child and hes not going to do anything unless hes ready and he wants to, its just his personality. I mean Ross could drink from a sippy, yes im certain he could, developmentally he has the skills to do it, but he doesnt want to, its the same with walking, could he do it, sure, he could have done it months ago but hes not ready yet. There will be plenty of battles worth fighting in his life time and taking a bottle past a year isnt one of them

I have that same sippy (but the girl version)...I think its made by NUK could be wrong though.
I still nurse Brynlie to bed sometimes. I dont give her warm milk in the sippy either. If Im not nursing her to sleep Ill just feed her then take her up to her crib and lay her down she only cries for about 5 minutes then she is out. But that only works if she is ready for bed she has to be tired otherwise she will scream for longer and Ill go get her cause I cant handle it.

Claire still has her bottle, which I thought would bother me, but she's just not ready to do without yet. She just mastered a straw sippy (FINALLY) so I'll give her some more time with that before I start putting milk in it.

It's made by Nuk. We tried the latex spout and it was too difficult for her. She weaned easily to this because it had a silicone spout - so it somewhat resembled her bottle. She was getting 3 bottles a day. One morning, one afternoon and one right before bed. I replaced her afternoon bottle with this sippy, then her morning and finally her night time one. She didn't like the hard spout sippies so this was perfect for her. Now she is willing to take any sippy. It took about 2 months or so to get her completely off of the bottle once I introduced this sippy. GOOD LUCK!

Ellie doesn't get bottles from me anymore, though her nana still gives her one at night if she's spending the night, but we're still nursing at night. The pediatrician said to start weaning her off of it, but I'm not too worried. She won't drink from a sippy cup, but she does drink from a cup with a straw.

He will give it up when he's ready, I'm sure. I thought Jackson would be done with my boob by now, but he's not and I am okay with it. Like the other ladies said, he is still young and he will let go when he's ready.
