What is an appropriate age to start time outs?

Hmmm, I'm gonna say 2. We try not to use time outs a lot here but my daughter does get one sometimes. Anyway, I wouldn't do one for a kid younger than 2.

Great question...I was going to say 2 as well but I think it depends on the child.

i think it depends on your childs understanding of the concept. I would say a typical child would "get it" around 2 or so, but some might understand earlier or later

I was thinking around 2 also, I was just curious on what others thought about it. I rarely used them with Lily, just when she was in super melt down mode.

I wouldn't say there is a certain age, as every child is different. At my work, we can't call it time out we call it "taking a break", haha. They are four, so they totally get it.

I think it depends on the child. DS1 would do timeouts when he was 1 and now he won't stay put. There is no way Josh would stay in a timeout right now. So we just redirect his attention and tell him no.
