When do you plan to take your LO to the dentist? I've seen some things that said to take them at 1 year?!? I can't imagine that. I just made a dentist appointment for myself and asked if I should bring Juliana in to watch so she gets used to seeing that. They said they don't do cleanings on kids until about 4-5 y/o so I should wait at least another year. Now I wonder if I need to find a pediatric dentist.
As a side note, I hope Juliana gets my teeth! I've never had a cavity. I only floss about once per week and it never seems to matter. DH, on the other hand, has had multiple cavities.

So, I had to take Maggie with me to the dentist for my last cleaning (no one to watch her). That was fun, let me tell ya. But, my cousin and his wife are my dentists, and so they took a quick look at Maggie's mouth while we were there. We won't take her in for any cleanings until they tell me she needs to (and I assume it won't be until she at least has a full set of teeth). But they have already seen that in order to be sure she has straight teeth with no gap, they're going to have to snip the skin between her two front teeth. Makes me cringe to think of it, but we'll deal with it, when it's appropriate.
I'll continue to take her though - get her used to that environment first. She hates anything in her mouth.

Well I took Caden when he was 3. The dentist told me that was a great age because he could understand and follow directions. He doesn't have any cavities. So I will take her around that age personally. I know some do and think differently. Becky, is that normal (to cut the skin?) I've never heard of it. I have a gap (LOVE IT) well I love it now, not so much when I was a teenager. It makes me Shantel! I thought to close up a gap you would just get braces? Idk..Im not a dentist or anything...ha ha.. Caden has a gap like me and I'm for sure getting it closed but just thought braces would do the trick.
BTW Caden has a pediatric dentist. I chose that because Caden is a nut when it comes to doctors or dentist and I personally feel (from experience) they do better with children.

I'll take the boys when they are 3, unless there are issues before that. I hope they have good teeth as well. Both DH and I have never had a cavity and our fathers haven't either. Both our Mom's have horrible teeth though.

Apparently so. With the overlap of skin that Maggie has, even braces won't correct the gap.
I have a good set of teeth. And as far as I know so does DH (though he has had a few molars removed, he gets cavities here and there, but it's been nothing significant since he met me). My mom had the same skin thing/gap and apparently they cut hers. My brother had awful teeth. I was supposed to get braces when I was 10 or 12 but they started talking surgery to pull down my two adult eye teeth that hadn't come through yet, and I nixed the process right then and there. But my teeth aren't soooo badly out you know?
For her, I'd rather do anything like this before she's old enough to be traumatized by it. I trust them with my life (they are my family), and while it makes me cringe, it's only cuz I'm her mommy.

Ohh ok that is interesting! I will be looking into that. I have no idea if Caden has skin that overlaps or not. . My great grandmother, grandmother, mother, 2 aunts and me have a gap. My grandmother and both my aunts filled thiers with gold (ghetto..to the 10x power..ha ha). My mom had hers until she got dentures. It's funny because I'm the only sibling out of the 4 that has a gap! lol...London doesn't have a gap but Caden does.

No lie...I was just talking to my IRL friend about this. She's taking her LO in a couple months (she's 15 mo also). I think Leah would flip the you know what out if I took her to the dentist. There would be no sitting still, and OMG it gives me palpitations just thinking about it. Anyways...I'm thinking 3 would be a better age? I'll ask my dentist the next time I go for a cleaning.
Mariah, I'm with you when it comes to wanting Leah to have my teeth. DH's teeth are crooked, and he refuses to get braces. His identical twin got invisalign, and his teeth look SO good. So far her teeth are looking pretty good, lol!

My husband had to have that piece of skin clipped when he was little! Interesting.
We will take E within the next month or so. It's been on my to do list but hasn't gotten done. Our insurance covers it starting at 6 months. We will go to a pediatric dentist. They like to look early more for prevention and then to start getting the kids used to it.

My teeth have always been perfectly neat, even, and straight. People think I have had braces.
BUT I've also had a trillion gazillion cavities!!! Even when I was little, I had caps on my teeth because I seriously have like 4 cavities every time I go to the dentist. Speaking of which, I need to go soon.
Arie has a panic attack whenever she even THINKS we are at a doctors office (like if we walk into a public restroom). My plan was to take her at 1, and ideally I would take her soon. She has almost all her teeth anyway. But at this rate, I probably won't take her until she is 2, or maybe even older. There's just no point, she would bite the dentists hand off. Even the pediatrician was surprised at how strong she was, it was this huge battle with 3 people holding her down just to check her ears.

I think I'll take Wyatt when he's around 2. We first took DD when she was 3 and she had a number of cavities! I was so upset! We brushed all the time, but she has a lot of grooves in her teeth and that's where the cavities formed. We were also still using the fluoride-free toothpaste. She got a few fillings and he sealed the other teeth and now they've been great. At 3 she did not like the dentist at all. We had the fillings done while she was asleep...it was fine and she did great, but I was a mess when she went under...not sure if I would do that again or not. Sorry, didn't mean to ramble!

I read that you should take them within 6 months (or was it a year) of their first tooth. I don't know if I will. That would be in about 3 months. I might wait until 2.

I've already taken Olivia. It was time for my older daughter and they went ahead and made Olivia an appointment too. It wasn't even remotely as bad as I thought it would be. They took xrays, because she seemed to be missing her tooth, but it showed up on the xray so its all good. Then they did flouride paste stuff and that was all. We drive to the city to go to a pediatric dentist, and its definately worth the drive. If you are considering it, I would highly recommend a pediatric dentist.

I'll probably just let my dad keep checking her out. This last visit my parents were "pretend flossing" Sophie's teeth and she would just lay there and open big....lol

Me, one of my best friends, and her little sister all had our frenulums(Here's a website) clipped in like Kindergarten...it's not painful at all and not as bad as it sounds. I think I only had one stitch, lol. My best friend kept busting her stitch b/c her sister would hit her in the face with a doll, LOL
Also, my parents didn't want problems by leaving it and potentially have crowding with the other teeth. I am 99.999% sure Sophie is going to need it too I think it might be hereditary b/c my mom had it too!

I'll take him when he's 3 unless I see a rason to take him sooner. Grace sees a pediatric dentist and I took her in when she was 2 because she had a dark spot on her tooth. It ended up being a calcium deposit and nothing to worry about. All they did at 2 wat sit her in the chair, count her teeth, take a quick look at the tooth I was concerned about, then gave her a princess toothbrush and sent us on our way. We don't have very good dental insurance so I'll wait until they are old enough to do more than just have their teeth counted LOL.

The pediatric dentist here starts seeing them at 3. Kaila will be going in November. I have a feeling Kaila and Kellen will have lots of issues. DH and I both had braces and our mouths are super crowded even still! I had teeth pulled and everything as a child. I actually had a retainer before braces! I also get cavaties VERY easily. No matter what I do, each visit brings me more bad news. Just a big old mess.
DH has fangs. Seriously, he's a vampire...well, he kinda looks like one. Kaila inherited the fangs. The poor thing is constantly biting her tongue and lips with her sharp teeth and overbite. Both Kaila & Kellen's teeth are coming in crooked.
Keira lucked out an inherited her father's teeth (at least I think, so far). They've been straight since day 1 with nothing but great reviews after each appt.
Time will tell but I see major dental/orthodontic bills in our future!
