I have a problem. Maddy is not really walking yet. She is a really good furniture surfer though. lol. When it comes to doing it by herself or we try to help her she cries! The doc said not to worry if she is cruising then she will get it soon, but I can't help but to worry. I'm driving myself crazy doing research on the internet and I'm seeing some pretty scary stuff out there!

Does you LO walk yet? Any pointers or advice to help me teach poor little Maddy to let go?

She will surprise you and one day she will just let go. My youngest dd didn't walk until 16 mos and now she's a normal 4 year old.

^^ Ditto. My oldest is 4 now and he was a late walker. He also didn't walk until he was 16 months. Hang in there momma, she will get it. She is just taking her time and will let go when she is ready... ((HUGS))

You know I thought that too, but everybody is always asking me "How come she is not walking yet?", and of course the big one..."Well my little one started walking at 11 months blah blah." I guess I'm just letting folks get to me. You can tell I'm a first time mom. lol.

She will get it soon, I'm sure! Vincent just took his first real steps on Sunday and I was really worried about it too because we just had his 15 month appointment last week and the dr. said they like to see babies start to walk by then but to wait and see how he did in the next few weeks. It seemed like the very next day he started getting better on his feet and I could tell he was close. Then Sunday he started standing up on his own and took some steps! I completely understand how hard it is to wait for that though.

A) not intending to hijack but Michelle that's FANTASTIC! Yay Vincent! You need to share these big exciting moments girl!!!

B) the others are right. If she's surfing, she's just waiting for the confidence and inspiration to kick in. She'll get there, and she'll surprise you when she does it. Maggie had a push toy, and we got her playing with that. Every night we'd sit at opposite ends of a room and set her loose with the push toy trying to walk from one of us to the other, and then we'd turn her around and send her back. I think this really helped get her used to the idea that she could do it without loads of support around her.

Good luck momma, and hang in there. It will happen soon enough!

Caleb will take about 3 steps and that's it. I wouldn't worry about it. I'm giving Caleb a few more months before I really worry.

My nephew started walking at 19 months. He wasn't even sitting up unassisted by a year old. He was a REALLY late bloomer. He's amazing though. He's now 2.5 and can name out any letter you point to, and sing soooo many songs..including cartoon theme songs. lol

My tip is to put something like a toy she can stand against that may slowly slide away from her. She may just try to move her legs to move with it. That's what we did with Hunter. At first he would drop to his bum if it began sliding too far. We actually took a toy walker, and clamped the wheels from moving so it would only slide slowly. Then eventually he was just going so fast, and unclamping the wheels was so exciting for him.

If she is cruising, I wouldnt worry about it right now. She is bearing weight and has correct leg motion to cruise. That's kinds the big worries about non walkers. But kids with muscular disorders are usually still only sitting at is point not crushing and bearing weight. I bet she will do it soon in her own time!
