Since I am on a mad scramble to make my house presentable this morning, yet I'm still sitting around online, someone please tell me I'm not the only awful housekeeper around here. DH and I used to share chores at home, but since he got promoted, he's working 10-12 hour days plus he is going to school online to finish his degree, so he just doesn't have a lot of time at home and I'd rather he spend it playing with Ellie than mopping the floor. I have used the Flylady method with some success, but I'm having a hard time getting back in the habit and getting into a groove that I can maintain.

I am terrible at housekeeping when Josh is home. I pick up. He cleans. But when he is gone then the house is spotless but I think thats just because I have less of a mess to stay on top off..lol
Like you I rather do something else then clean. I truly find it a real inconvenience to have to clean.

I suck at it. It definitely is not one of my strong points. I want to get better and I'm trying. But I definitely fail at it most of the time haha.

I bought an iPhone app that works well with Flylady and it gives me little stars when I check things off. Now I am motivated! How sad is that?

What is the app? I'm terrible at cleaning and I hate it. My big splurge is a gal that cleans my house every week.

I would so love to have a cleaning lady. Even to just do the deep clean stuff because that is what I really hate.

This is exactly how I feel. I don't mind picking up here and there but I hate the deep cleaning. It's so time consuming and it seems like it has to be done while little one is sleeping or DH is home and those two things seem very rare lately.

I'm terrible about it. I do the dishes 1-2 times a day and up to 4 loads of laundry a day and anything else I can manage, but with 4 kids I can't get ahead.

The app is called Home Routines. DH wants us to see if we can start budgeting for someone to come and do our deep cleaning for us.

Grr, and of course my phone is clear over there. But then so is my charger so I guess I'm getting up anyways. I would LOVE to get somebody in here to help, but DH won't have it. I'm going to get a steam mop and I think that'll make a huge difference since I won't be trying to mop while chasing kids and pets away from a bucket.

I'm a terrible housekeeper! I go through spurts where I get in a good rhythm but it never lasts. It's partially my ADHD (which went undiagnosed for far too long, and I have years of poor habits to break because of it.)
It IS a little easier now that the kids are getting older though...they help with dishes and with vacuuming and stuff which is WONDERFUL!

Anna, I'm asking for a steam mop for Christmas! I'm hoping that will motivate me to mop more.

I am horrible with this too. I can't seem to ever make it past the kitchen, by time I get it cleaned my LO wakes up and we start all over again with the mess. I'm really glad you mentioned flylady because I remember reading that site years ago and have been thinking about it lately but couldn't remember what it was called. I'm going to check it out now!

About the steam mop, I tried it and ended up returning it to the store. I have pergo wood floors and it left streaks all over. It might work well for tile or vinyl though. Also because it plugs in, it was an extra hassle for me to deal with the cord because I have large area of floor. just thought I would share - I hope it works for you though

I've read the streaking is really common until it gets all of the soap residue and stuff off of the surface which can take a few or many uses depending on what you've used and for how long. And I don't mind the cord, really. We don't have a ton of tile though. My issue is we have ceramic tile so we have that really deep grout that I've had absolutely no luck getting clean with a traditional mop and touching up with a swiffer isn't even an option because it's so textured it doesn't begin to clean it. Right now the best thing I can do is get down on my hands and knees and go over the floor with my hand steamer which is not fun.
