Are any of you working on this yet? How can you tell if your LO is ready? I've potty trained 3 year olds when I was working at Head Start but I feel like its different at home.

My daughter didn't potty train until she was 3 so I haven't even thought about it yet with Isaac.

I started at 2 with my other two.. they were pretty much fully trained by 3 but my 4 y/o wets his pants a lot bc he wont stop playing to go to the toilet. Heidi isn't talking good enough yet for me to fathom trying yet though I've heard some moms have successfully PTd at younger than her even.

I was thinking about maybe getting him a cool Cars potty or something for Christmas. just to have around, for him to explore and try out if he wants. he sees all of us using the toilet and he might show some interest if we get him one. I won't be in full potty training mode for a while though.

I don't start trying to potty train until they can say that they need to go, they show interest in the potty, and they can go a decent length of time without a wet diaper. Right now Sarah isn't doing any of those. Unless you count putting the ring part of the potty seat over her arm and walking around like it's a purse.

Not even on my radar yet with Macie. All my girls started at 2, and I'm still trying to convince my almost 3yo son to give it a shot.

My oldest is now considered potty trained and he is just over 2 1/2 years old. We started with him right before he turned 2 because he was showing interest, but had a lot of things hold us back from fully potty training him. So it took us 8-9 months to train him, and I don't think it should take that long.
Josh is already starting to show signs of wanting to be potty trained. But I don't think I'm ready to train him yet, so I'm trying to hold off. It helps that he has an older brother that he watches. Josh learns a lot from Alex.
The way we could tell that Alex was ready is that he wanted to sit on the potty at first, and then tried standing by the toilet and pulling his pants down. Other signs would be that they can communicate to you with words that they want to go potty, have a dry diaper for a long period of time. There's a lot of articles out there that can give you a good idea.

We aren't even close to starting. I was thinking around 2 as dd was ready then. But I will wait until I see signs from him he is ready, I'm not sure that is going to be anytime soon though.

My Step-Mother's Mom told me that in her days all kids were potty trained by 13 months and you were considered a bad parent if the kid wasn't potty trained by then. That's nuts! I can't imagine trying to potty train a kid that young.

Hallie got a potty for her birthday and I didn't even consider using it. I went ahead and put it in the bathroom to get her familiar with seeing it. She started getting interested when I would go to the bathroom she'd follow me and she would try to sit on her potty. She peed in it instantly. We've been nonchalantly working on it since then. I will start getting a little stricter with it around 18 months. She knows what to do with it and if we keep her in the habit she will go in there and wait for us. We aren't too worried about really training yet but we want to keep it out for her to use if we get the chance to sit her on it.

I'm trying to start the process with my oldest (25months) and Strettie shows more of an interest and so I take his diaper off and let him sit, he hasn't went yet, but one day I'm sure he will lol, the other day he had a diaper on, but went and sat on the potty and pooped and as soon as he was done he came to me saying shoo lol so I figure I'll keep on if he's interested ds1 seems to have no interest at all yet and I was hoping to have him somewhat potty trained by the time ds3 arrives, but not looking like it lol

I'll sit him on the potty starting around 18m and see what he does. If he's interested, we'll casually go at it and see what happens. If its a fight, I'll wait a couple of months and introduce it again. All of mine have been completely (day) trained my 3.5 and we are in the throes of it with my just-turned-3 year old
