Ok Ethan has been sleeping in his own crib just fine now since 12 months old. So the past 4 months or so. Last night he woke up screaming right after we went to bed around 11:30. He had a really runny nose so I knew he was coming down with something. Well, we finally got him back down around 12:30 and then he woke up at 2am and REFUSED to go back to bed. Screamed and screamed and screamed. A couple of times I took him into bed w/me and he layed there and laughed hysterically, talked, wanted to sit up and play. Finally DH wanted me to get a half hour of sleep so he sat up with him and let him play. He fell back asleep around 6am and slept until 9:30 when DH woke him up.

I can't stand to hear him scream and I think he's caught on. Today during his nap he refused to take a nap as well..screaming and screaming. Eventually DH let him fall asleep on the couch (DH broke his ankle on Tuesday and can barely get up and down so he can't go back and forth to comfort him).

Tonight he's in his crib...I gave him tylenol because he was a little fussy off and on today and felt a little warm, but he was laughing, giggling, playing right before bed, so he feels just fine. Well, he's screaming again. He stands up with his paci in his mouth and holding onto his blankie waiting for us to come get him.

I am SO HOPING tonight isn't another night like last. I'm tempted to check on him once, make sure he's ok, lay him down, and try to ignore his screams. I think he's realized cause and effect (I scream...mom comes and get me)...and is using it to his advantage.

What the heck do I do? I'm EXHAUSTED. On top of it all I'm 14.5 weeks pregnant, working full time, and taking on ALL of the house work and childcare in my off hours home from work and I'm about to die without any sleep.

We went through this last week. Wyatt throws his paci and blankets out of his crib in order to get us to come in. My secret weapon used to be bringing him in bed with us. That didn't even work last week - he just climbed on top of us, pulled my hair, etc. Every night he was up for at least 2 hours. This week so far has been better. No two hour stretches of waking! No advice, but I feel your pain!

((hugs)) Sounds very exhausting. Well London did this about a couple weeks ago and it was a little bit of separation anxiety and being scared of the dark. She would scream and cry her head off, but when I went into the room and picked her up she would immediately stop. We tried to bring her to bed with us, but she acted just like Ethan. She was climbing, laughing and hitting us in the face. She has a night light, but that wasn't cutting it so now our hall light is on and she sleeps better. We did a little CIO though and it worked for us. The inital 2 nights were bad, but I would walk in there and pat her back and try to reassure her. She now is back to her old self.

Ugh. Kellen was doing this about a week ago. He knew how to get me in there...would throw his paci on the floor and listen for my footsteps. The only thing that seemed to work was making sure that I didn't get him out of the crib. I would go in, rub his back, lay him back down and walk out. He had to cry it out a bit but I knew he didn't really need anything because he'd cry and "listen" to see if I was coming in...when he didn't hear me, he seemed to get the hint that it was night time and to go back to bed. Lots of prompting though. I think it's just a phase. Hopefully!!

He's doing great. He now has a new routine..we put him to bed, he cries about 5-10 minutes. I take him out and cuddle him for 5-10 minutes, lay him back down, and he goes right to sleep.

But that week or so where he was screaming was pure torture! I'm so glad that's over, must've just been a phase!

Thanks for asking!
