Yesterday at 3:40pm, I was coming down our stairs with the recent clean load of diapers. Our diaper basket is pretty big so you can't really see down right in front of you. My husband was there and said I was fine. I went from the last step to the floor and my ankle went out on a stupid toy story shoe. I fell hard, heard and felt a snap. My ankle swelled, started turning all sorts of colors. DH had to get Gage from the bus so I had to lay there for about 10 minutes. Not fun at all.

I had Bishop in the high chair, Dane sitting on the stairs (it was his shoe) and there I was laying on the floor staring at our ceiling. My mom came over and watched the boys while we went up to urgent care.

They thought I fractured it. 6 x-rays, 1 smartass Dr and a husband who came up with several nicknames for me, later, I didn't fracture or break it. Thank goodness. I did severely sprain both my ankle and foot though.

I was given a splint which isn't fun because you can't put weight on it at all (even resting on a hard surface) or else it could break. I was given crutches which aren't fun with kids at all and then an anti-inflammatory and pain pill so I can sleep at night. He said the pain would be the worst then and he wasn't kidding.

So that's my story. My son Dane's toy story shoe tried to kill me.. nearly succeeded in killing my ankle though.

I have to be in the splint for a week with the crutches. I can then take the splint off but have to use the crutches to walk with for another week. He said I'm looking at 3-6 weeks before its fully healed.

that explains the ceiling picture. you might just be a bigger dork than me....I'm impressed.

I'm still healing from my "nope it's not broken but that's going to take a LONG time to heal" foot that I hurt in JULY. sigh.

good luck!

Oh man...those little toys that are scattered all over the house drive me nuts. Did the Dr. say how bad it was? My DH had a 3rd degree sprain last year. He stepped wrong on a rolled up carpet and ripped them so bad that he was in a boot for 12 weeks and couldn't walk.
Sprains are much worse than breaks, they take forever to heal up. Just take care of your foot and don't put any pressure on it or it will take longer to heal. I know it's not that easy with kids.

I hope you're feeling better soon! I've rolled my ankle like that twice stepping off a curb and now that ankle/foot are pretty much unsprainable. I roll it all the time now, but I think the ligament is so stretched it just hurts for a second and now I'm fine.
