First, this is not meant to start a debate. Every parent can decide if the flu shot is right for their family.
I'm just curious. Those of you who have had the flu shot or have had your LO get the flu shot, did you get the flu?
Those of you who skip the shot...what about your family, did you get the flu?
Both my kids got the flu shot and they have both had the flu this season, same with last year...

Vincent didn't get it last year and neither did DH or I. None of us got the flu last year. Vincent got the flu shot this year (just got the 2nd one yesterday) and DH and I will probably not get one. I don't remember the last time I had the flu. Some years I've gotten the flu shot and some years I haven't but I don't remember getting the flu if I've had the flu shot. So who knows?

We all got our flu shots last year, and none of us got the flu. We have already all gotten ours this year too.

We normally all get flu shots. When Caden was 3 he got the flu shot and got the flu that season and he ended up being hospitalized. The year H1N1 surfaced I didn't get a shot and ended up getting H1N1. I was so sick. So Idk. Since then though we have continued to get the flu shot and we have not had any outbreaks (knock on wood..)

We all got our Flu shots this year and so far none of us got the flu. Same with last year. However, when I was pregnant with Maddy me and my husband got the flu shot and a month later we both got the flu.

this year I have gotten it, DF will be getting it but Sydney won't (egg allergy ..still not determined to be safe for her). We are getting it because she can't and she is in daycare. Any amount of protection it provides to us will help protect her.

My husband and I always get the flu shot; he has to because he's in the military and I do because I have asthma and the one time I didn't I had the flu I ended up in the hospital. It's not a scenario I want to repeat. We never get the flu.
Aaron has never had a flu shot. I opted him out of it last year because it was so late in the season by the time he was old enough for one and they already ran out of them at the ped. office this year. Since he's not in daycare I'm not overly concerned though if there's a bad outbreak around here I'm definitely not taking him anywhere.

If you get the flu shot and get the flu, its most likely a different strain...what they do is try to figure out the main strains of flu for that year and that's what the flu shot consists of...so its different each year. So if you get a flu shot and get the flu, it might have protected you from getting the flu twice, you know?

My husband gets it and so does Raven. I don't because I got really sick the one time I got it so my doctor didn't want me getting it again, and I don't let Aidyen get it. Raven only got it because he was in school, but now that he's doing independent study at home he won't get it from now on

Agree with this...so it's really difficult to judge just from small number of people's experience. Check out the book Flu: the story of the influenza outbreak of 1918. Fantastic read and gives perspective on the virus.

yeah..this years flu shot contains 3 or 4 strains (H1N1 being one of them) but it's really hard to predict which will be the prevalent strain - like Seema said, in many cases it's a strain that wasn't projected to cause an outbreak and as such did not get manufactured into the vaccine. sometimes they are correct - other times they aren't.

Oh, I know...just curious of others experiences.... I'm not trying to say it's good or it's bad to get. Just wondering

We just got ours tonight. In the past I didn't bother, but one year I got H1N1 and it was the horrible. I couldn't imagine a small child feeling like that. So if I can do something to try and prevent it, I will. Plus I'm in contact with students all day long and now both kids are in school and/or daycare, so that's a lot of germs we are exposed to!
