Milwaukee Runs Provocative Ads to Wake Parents Up to Dangers of Co-Sleeping - Yahoo! News

Any other thoughts?

Your link doesn't work, but I Googled and found the ad...it makes me want to throw up. Done safely, co-sleeping is beneficial for Mom and baby...it definitely was for Claire and I. When I put her in the bassinet next to our bed, she had uneven breathing, sounded like she was choking and gagging, and didn't sleep well. The minute I scooted her over in bed with me, her breathing was even, quiet, and she slept like a baby (ha ha!). It felt like the most natural thing in the world to us.

I'm sure the people that made the ad think that they are saving lives, but they are really misguided. In my humble opinion, they should focus on things like women who have no prenatal care, parents who smoke in the home with their kids, women who drink and do drugs while they are in charge of the baby, etc...that would be time better spent.

Sorry about the broken link! Thanks for your thoughts. This is just horrible research! They make the connection between co-sleeping and SIDS. Children dying because they suffocate while co-sleeping is not the same thing as SIDS. They are trying to scare parents and they do not have any research to back-up their claims! They are comparing the infant mortality rates to third world countries where they most likely co-sleep and do not have cribs. To say that their infant mortality rate is as high as a third world country because of co-sleeping makes no sense!!

I made the decision to co-sleep with a lot of thought and consideration. If I was a very heavy sleeper, I would not have chosen to co-sleep. If a family chooses not to co-sleep due to fear of rolling on the baby, I would completely understand. However, it is totally wrong and misleading to say that co-sleeping is always unsafe and the cause of a high infant mortality rate.

Not sure why, but I am so mad at this!!

Pregnancy hormones?!? Ha ha, just kidding. Illogical people make me crazy...just because some women drink, smoke, and then lay down with their children on a waterbed doesn't mean that cosleeping is dangerous for everyone. I hope the Moms that see that advertisement do some research and make their own conclusions about what is best for their family.

You know what, I've stopped listening to 'research' and go by common sense and what my gut tells me and as long as I"m happy with my decisions I stand by them. One day they tell you drinking a glass of wine a day is great for your health the next day research tells you that more than 2 glasses a week cause ovarian cancer. Tomatoes are good....tomatoes are bad. Use wedges under the baby to elevate...don't use wedges under the baby. BLAH! I say COMMON SENSE. Just like with the recalls. If a handful of people are stupid and irresponsible don't punish everyone else by taking the product away entirely, punish the parents who caused the accident. Anyway...sorry...that's my little rant for the day.
