for those that don't celebrate Christmas, how do you avoid it? especially with older kids? Do you do a generic non-religious version or do you ignore the day completely? Does your extended family celebrate Christmas?

what are your thoughts on your kids asking to buy Christmas gifts for friends or wanting a tree?

do you have another holiday you celebrate that is similar to Christmas in tradition or religious implication?

I actually asked this out of genuine interest......I always wonder how people go about NOT celebrating such an in-your-face holiday. I know people that make it purely religious and eliminate all commercial aspects, and I know people that make it purely tradition and gift giving and eliminate all religious aspects, but not celebrating in any way intrigues me.

I celebrate chrismtas because i have too, well not so much that i have too but i know it would disappoint our families a lot if we just decided to sit it out. Im just not into it, i never have been.

We dont really decorate, we wont even put up the tree this year, next year we do plan to do some decorating, mostly for Ross, I want it too be fun and festive for him

Dh and I are very faithful Christians. That being said, we celebrate Christmas strictly as a secular holiday and not as the birth of Christ. We believe Christ's birth should be celebrated daily and not when "man" decided it should be. But we understand the general population acknowledges it as Christ's birth and it in no way offends us.

I know this post asked about ppl who don't celebrate it, but I just thought I'd throw in what we do.

We don't celebrate Christmas in our home. No decorations or music or anything. We do watch some of the cartoons, but none of the ones that make religious references or quote the Bible or anything. We do go to his family's Christmas dinner to keep them off our backs, but that's it. We just explain to the kids that it isn't our holiday and you don't celebrate them just to get gifts.
