If you decorate one, do you prefer live or artificial?
I prefer live but it's been years since I've had one. When I was little we lived in places where you could go to a farm and cut your own. I can't do that here so I have a little fiber optic tree I've had since college. DH hates it and I haven't put it up the last few years because we were in a little condo and we spend Christmas at his parents anyway. This year we're looking into getting a live tree since we have the space and then buying a big artificial one after Christmas when they're on sale. I'm wondering what live trees are going for these days. Anyone have any info?

I prefer real myself, but don't mind artificial either. I am not sure if we'll have a real one this year or not. But eventually i think i'll have little artificial ones in each room, and a real one in the living room.
Not sure about prices, guessing it can vary greatly.

I need to have a real tree. I'm in New England, surrounded my woods and such so maybe that has something to do with it, but we always had real trees growing up and I refuse to buy a fake one. The price depends on the size, we never get anything huge. They usually run about 30-40$ though.

I have no clue on the cost of a real tree. I love them, but we won't get one for a few more years. Not until our kids are a bit older.
So we have a fake tree, it's nice but it's showing its age. We've had it 6 years and 6 years of un packing, re packing, definitely showing.

DH and I grew up with real trees and fake ones just aren't an acceptable substitute for either of us. It will be interesting with a toddler this year, but we're going to try and make it work!
I asked my Mommy friends about toddlers and Christmas trees, and they had some good ideas. We're going to use fishing line from the top of the tree to the ceiling to keep it upright if Claire tugs on it. This year we are also going to decorate it after she is in bed so she doesn't see us touching it...maybe that way it will make more sense to her when we tell her she can't touch it. I'm hoping!!

We have always done fake, but thats because I had a table top tree that I got when I moved out on my own. Then we didn't have one for the longest time as we left it behind when we moved. Two years ago we got a real tree and both fell in love. We love the smell and the look and just all of it. However till the kids are older we are going to be buying a table top tree. If it was just Rosie I could handle teaching her not to touch all day long. But with Joshua that just will be to much.

Another good idea is using a big gate like a super yard. It's what we do to keep the boys out of the tree.

When I was real little we had real trees and than graduated to the fake tree. I refuse to have a live tree in the house, i prefer my fake hands down
I hate cleaning up needles, the lights I use would probably cause it to catch on fire (c7s, which burn much hotter than the tiny ones)

I used to hate real and when I was growing up we always had artificial. However DH only wants real, so for the past few years we've had a real tree and since he's the one to decorate it I figured, why not! I like it better because it smells nice and we don't have to struggle putting it together each year, but I don't like the mess it makes.

I've always had an artificial, I like the smell of a real tree but I don't want to have to take care of or clean up after my decor lol
