I'm currently a kindergarten teacher for kids who came into school speaking no English at all. It is really challenging, and I enjoy it except for all the stupid paperwork it comes with. It sometimes takes longer to plan and document my lessons than it does to teach them. I'm pondering applying at a school with a bigger English speaking population next year, but I haven't decided yet.

I stay home with Claire and do a little accounting/auditing work on the side. Our bonus room is 1/2 office and 1/2 playroom. For me, this is the perfect arrangement. I love that I am home to be a full-time Mama, but I can also use my brain, my degrees, and keep current in my field. I don't know if I'll ever go back to work full-time, but what I am doing now helps keep that option open.

But not till Joshua is at least 6 months old or 1.

I'm a customer service rep for an insurance company. It's not the ideal position, but there's plenty of opportunity for growth within the company and the pay is good so I like it. I want to eventually get into underwriting for the company

most of y'all know this (and it says it in my siggy lol) but I am a doula and aspiring midwife. Birth is my passion and I LOVE my job. It is the most rewarding, fulfilling, amazing job I could ever hope for. All of my clients end up being friends and I can remember each and every one SO distinctly. I can't wait until I can finally start a midwifery apprenticeship!

I'm a preschooler teacher at a small child care center and it has its good and bad parts. The good parts are the schedule (I work mornings M-F), my co-workers, and the rewards I get (sometimes) for helping small children, like when they hug me and tell me they love me or flat out thank me for doing fun things with them. They are also hilarious sometimes. I have my own classroom so the authority is kind of nice, I get to design everything the way I want it.

The bad: First thing is the pay. It is beyond lousy, especially for the amount of work I have to do. I have worked in centers for several years so I knew it was bad going into it, but this is the first time I have tried to support a family on this line of work and it's ridiculous. No benefits, aside from paid Holidays. We are required to attend trainings (I think 4-5 per year?) that are usually 2-4 hrs on the weekends, UNPAID. Since I leave to go home at the beginning of nap time, I have NO time at work to lesson plan/write newsletters/do evaluations/observations/millions of other things I always have to do so I end up doing a ton of work at home, UNPAID, when I should be spending time with Jackson or at least doing housework. I also can't bring Jackson because we can't afford it, even with a 20% discount. Last but not least, working with little kids is very hard work. They are demanding, whiny, loud, and sometimes I want to pull my hair out. I love kids, I do, but I feel like I have less patience with Jackson when I come home due to dealing with chaos all day. I feel like this job would be WAY better for me if I didn't have kids.

Sorry this was so long, but I needed to get this rant out, I have been feeling so torn about my job for a while now. Typing this out helped me put it into perspective.

Dream job: I only have an Associates in Psychology, so this will never happen, but I would love to be counselor of some kind, or a therapist. I want to go back to school and get my MSW (masters in social work). I still want to work with kids, just in a very scaled-back frame. Barring that, I would love to be a lactation consultant, specifically for LLL or WIC. Really working for any non-profit program would be awesome, I want a desk and files and something to organize for the left brained side of me, but I also want to help people. I know I would be good at it too, but it looks like I'm never going to get the opportunity to go back to school.

I'm a staffing manager for a professional services firm. I basically put our people on internal projects based on their skills and availaiblity. It's not my dream job at all but it pays really good money and it's flexible. I can work from home if I need to (right now I do it 2x/week and if I have any appointments or the kids are sick). So that is a bonus. It does take me an hour to get in to work and home, but anything closer to home wouldn't pay anywhere close to what I'm getting.
Ideally I would LOVE to stay home and maybe work part time in the evenings. I loved being a SAHM for the 1 year off on mat leave. But unfortunately bills have to be paid.

I am a technology teacher for grades k- (eventually) 8 at a brand new charter school.

I have bad days but in general I absolutely love my job. The only sucky thing is the pay. For a professional with a master's degree, I make crap. I knew that going in to this profession but I want to find a way to change that for teachers. I don't think a teacher should make so little that she could not afford to live independently if need be.
