So, a woman in the June DDC posted about someone she knows doing a baby shower 3 months before her due date and she thought that seemed unusually early. Pretty much everyone who responded wrote they agreed that it was too early. I was so surprised, I had thought anything after about 25-ish weeks was fine... so, what do you think? Are showers supposed to be right near the end of pregnancy?

I had my showers at 30 and 31 weeks, so I don't think it is too early at all. I'm a control freak and wanted to have them a little earlier so I could purchase what I still needed and have everything organized and ready for the baby. It worked great since Claire came at 37 weeks!

I don't feel like that's too early. It gives you time to finish preparing, especially if the baby comes early.

I dont think its too early, at my shower i was 35 weeks, which IMO was cutting it a little close (he was born at 38 weeks)

I don't think that's too early either. I had a couple and they were all between 6 months and 7.5 months. Like the other girls said, I am a control freak and needed/wanted time to make returns/exchanges, wash everything, buy what was left, and get his room ready.

Traditionally I think they are done closer to the end. However IMO it should be done with whatever works for people. I was planning on going home when pregnant with DD that would have put me at around 20 weeks only. However I would have had my shower then. Of course it all fell through so never had one with her and family. My friend gave me one and it was about a month before she was born I think.

I had my baby shower (my only one) with my oldest in October. I was due at the very end (Seriously, Dec 31st 05 was my due date) of December and I was 30 weeks. I think 28+ weeks is fine for a baby shower.

I agree with everyone else, I don't think it's too early. I had mine in August and was due at the end of September with my first, I was about 32 weeks. It makes it easier to prepare and get the nursery done.

I think it's totally fine. there's so much to get ready before the baby comes, the earlier the better. I think my shower was 2 or 2 1/2 months before my due date. I can't even remember the exact date of my shower now!

I had 2 showers with my first. One was the middle of January (I was due the middle of April). It was a combined shower with my sister who was due the end of February. The second shower I had was March 21st and I ended up having him March 26th. Funny thing is March 22nd I made DH drive me 100 miles to the closest shopping area at the time so we could buy everything else that we needed to get for the baby that we didn't get as a present. Almost like I knew he was going to be born early. DH hated that I made him take me he was really mad, but after we had the baby he was glad we had everything. I don't think 3 months is to early.

I agree that it should happen when it works for everyone. Cutting it too close isn't ideal, because the baby could come early plus mom usually doesn't feel up to anything. On the other hand I guess the mentality behind this is that you take mom's mind off the whole birth anxiety and throw her a shower to keep her mind occupied with fun things.
I don't think it would be too early at all. Like the girls said, it gives you time to prepare and see what you are missing. It's not like you feel up to shopping for last minute things when you are close to your due date.
Whatever works for the mom and the person that is throwing the shower works for me.

I had my baby shower in June because I was so nervous about McKenzie coming early and being put on bedrest which I was put on in July and that's when my family wanted it to be lol. So given that I think having the baby shower early is good.
