She won't stay in the cart seat, screaming like an insane chimp if I force her (by physically holding her down). If I let her walk, she will run around the store and play hide-from-mommy! I tried a one hour shopping excursion with her and it turned out poorly. DH says, "I don't know... there must be something you're missing. I mean, mothers of 18-month olds have been shopping successfully for years..."

Anyone else have this problem? I mean the toddler, not the DH

Sorry you're dealing with this, but honestly, I'm a bad mommy - I don't really let her walk around in stores yet. I put her straight in the cart - at this point in time, she doesn't know what she's missing, and the only reason I haven't let it happen is because I don't want to chase her. If it were me, I'd probably start shopping without her, but I know that's not always a solution that works.

Even in the house, when I ask Maggie to "come here" or "let's go", she thinks it's a game and tears off in the opposite direction. Until she's listening better, I have zero interest in attempting that game in a store. I'm not anti harness or anything, but I think she is. LMAO

This is our situation exactly. She screams bloody murder now if she strap her down in anything....wants to be free to walk and yank things off of shelves...so she usually stays home with daddy now when I shop.

Noah doesn't do this, but I had this problem with my oldest ds and I just had to make him ride when he threw a fit we'd just leave, yes we'd leave our groceries or whatever behind and have to come back later. It did get better.

If you have the option, leave her with dh or someone else.

I wear Juliana in the Ergo still. Sometimes she fussy and wants down but I had the same experience, so I do my best to distract her and keep her in the Ergo. Luckily my nanny does most of the grocery shopping. I'll have to ask her how it's going.

Yeah we have the same issue and I become that bad parent that lets their kid stand up in the cart. Thats better than chasing him but its something I swore I would never do bc I worked at a children's hospital and know how dangerous it is. Either that or I just bribe him with treats and an iphone.

I had a meltdown in Target last week bc Leah was so bad. I was literally crying, and DH had to take her to the car to keep her occupied. She wouldn't stay in the cart, was running into people, knocking things of shelves, falling out, and crying hysterically. I felt like I looked like the dumbest Mom ever. All these other little babies were sitting in their carts all calm and sweet. It just overwhelmed me. I was so glad DH was there to help me though bc I don't know what I would've done.
