So our bank is being taken over by another bank. I've known this since last June, but no details. Had a discussion with my manager last week...good news is I still have a position (for now!). Bad news, is that after 1 year, they will be reducing my salary by at least $6k if I haven't found a higher up position, as the new bank doesn't pay as well.

Since I'm the only one who is working, and we are about to add another baby, I am totally totally upset and stressing. I know I have a whole year to figure things out what sucks is I love the people I work with, its been a great company and a great place to work, and I'm afraid all of that is changing now.

And if I can't find another position within the company I will be looking for a new position, obviously. Makes me wish DH had his degree done already and he found a job so I could just stay at home with the kids for the next year while I figure out where I want to go.

I know I don't want to be in banking my whole life. I'd like to eventually go back to school and become a midwife but since I am the only one working right now to support the family while DH is finishing up his computer degree, I can't really act on that yet.

I still can't believe they are going to cut my salary. I know they could have done it immediatly upon conversion though so at least they guaranteed my salary for a year. I just feel like I'm starting all over again though....I have a friggin' college degree and 5 years experience now so it sucks that I could be cut back to what I originally started making straight out of college 5 years ago. *sigh*....

Thanks for letting me vent girls!

Wow that would be stressful. You would think since they are taking over your pay would still be the same. Sorry your dealing with this.

Oh that is really rough! I feel you on the stressing out. I like to have my budgeting figured out and would have a hard time knowing I might have to try to cut back for a while until I found something comparable to what I'd been making. I hope you're able to find something within the company that will let you keep working with some of the people you like.

That sounds really stressful. I don't know how you do it. Both DH and I working and are struggling big time right now, I can't imagine being the only one with a job and then having my salary cut. I hope that things change for you real quick!!!

Yeah we won't be doing if I have my salary cut. We are on a strict strict strict budget right now and that's WITHOUT our fourth one here yet!!! I will have to find something else if I can't find another position within the same company...DH graduates in December with his degree so maybe he will find something too. We just have to factor in daycare costs for 3 kids and extended care for 1. That's expensive and he would have to be paid enough to make working worthwhile.

That really sucks! I'm so sorry. I hope you find either another position with better pay at the bank or find another place that will pay you what you are worth.

We have weird pay situations where i work too... i just dont get how they can hire you at one pay and then later cut it and think it is o.k. ... i get that it is a new management situation but still who can get a pay cut and go ... oh yeah i didn't need that 6,000 dollars anyways... places should realize that most of us are on budgets... ugh!!!

Yeah the only reason they didn't cut our pay immediatly upon conversion was because they knew they'd have a max exodus from people right around conversion and they'd be screwed...not that I'm in a position to just walk away like others are.

This way they can use us a whole year, and if we leave, well, they've had time to post for new people without a college degree that they can pay piddly amounts compared to those of us that are seasoned and have been there longer...*sigh*.
