Did your pedi do the autism screening at 18 months? Or will they, since I forgot that most of these babies aren't 18 months yet! Do any of these LO's currently qualify for EI? The girls from July will probably remember, but we've always had trouble with Olivia. Something has always been off about her. At her 18 month she failed her autism screening. Then was given the m-chat test, and failed that. You fail if you get 2 things wrong, and she got 6 wrong. We start therapy on Wednesday(this will be our second round of therapy), and I'm just wondering if anyone here has any experience with this? Thanks!

I'll have to find out if they screen for autism. Ellie's 18 month appointment is on February 9th. I think it's a good idea, since as a teacher with an autism preschool at our school, I know how much progress can be made when they start interventions early!

Sarah has her 18 month today and we'll do a questionnaire. She's always done fine. Oddly enough, the pediatrician I had with my son at this age didn't do the questionnaire and he would've red flagged for a speech delay and sensory problems at the very least. I'm very much in favor of those few quick questions.

I guess they don't do it here, unless there are other signals that it should be done. Maggie went through all the same checks at her 18month appt that she did at her 15 month.
So, have they diagnosed anything for Olivia then? How is she doing? Been a while since you were here to update. Which milestones has she hit recently?

Same here and we're in the U.S. Our ped just asked about milestones (eg how many words she spoke, whether she could jump, feeding herself)

Thanks for asking! It has been awhile, but this new joint playroom looks like it will be a great thing! SHe hasn't been officially diagnosed with anything, that will start when we go Wednesday for our therapy appointment. I guess the pedi wants to be really careful with writing any kind of 'diagnosis' because it can really mess up insurance in this state. She defiantely has some sort of sensory processing issue though and gets overwhelmed quickly at the oddest things. But then things that seem like they would be overwhelming, she can do fine at. There is just obviously some things that work weird in her brain. As for milestones, she is catching up quickly. So with that, I'm feeling confident that therapy can really help bring out the best girl she can possibly be. I've seen her grow a lot in the past couple months. We'll just wait and see what the OT's say on Wednesday and go from there. Thanks for asking about her though, I hope to be around a lot more now.

My dr. never bothered doing any questionaires. If I ever thought that there were any issues, I'd have to ask for a referal to a pediatrician. My DS has ADHD and let me tell you it took me years to find out the right process and have him diagnosed. And now I'm paying out of pocket for testing so I can get him some help at school. I wish they'd do some kind of screening at 18-24 months. Maybe it just depends on the dr.

Sarah had her 18 month well-visit today and I had to fill out 4 pages (front and back) of questions.

We use a family doctor and so he's doesn't always do what a normal pediatrician would do. If I remember right, he doesn't do any kind of formal questionnaire or anything, just asks me questions.

I wanted to do the questionnaire before I answered your question. We haven't had the 18mth appt yet. But there was only one questionnaire that asked developmental questions. Not sure if they are autism related. To be honest I wouldn't know how autism manifests itself in a toddle. Like what do I look out for?
I will ask when we have our appt. Thanks for the post.
