I'm just starting to think about this and am wondering what everyone plans to do!
It looks like we'll need Claire's nursery (gender neutral Dr. Seuss) for a new baby in October, so Claire will need to move down the hall into her "big girl" room. It is empty right now, so we need everything...a bed, dresser, bookshelf, bedding, etc. I don't know where to start.
Have you thought about this? What are your plans? Will you use a toddler bed, or move him/her into a regular adult bed? When are most kids ready to move out of their cribs? Where do you like to shop for these things?

we have Ross in a toddler bed. Right now his room is a bit of a mis matched collection of furniture, we got the dresser from walmart, my mom bought his bedding (its a crib set) got the toddler bed and storage bins from kijiji (same as craigslist) and the bookshelf was from my ILs house and my ILs gave us his little bean bag chair.
We will do a nice big kid room once he and Will share a room and are a bit older, since the room is a little small id like to do bunk beds to maximize space, so it will be a few years until Ross is able to sleep on a top bunk

I was thinking about this yesterday actually and looked on-line what people say. I think we will wait to move Sophia out of her crib, since it keeps her safe. She doesn't know how to climb out yet. Maybe when she is closer to 3? But if she knows how to climb out of her crib then she can move into a toddler bed. Her crib converts into a toddler bed. We will be using that for a while. It converts into a twin later on.
I am curious to read the answers from the other moms.

Miranda's crib turns into a toddler bed, just have to remove the railing. She's in the same room as Isabelle now and I"m planning on keeping them together. I guess eventually (hopefully not for a while yet) she will have to get a twin bed, so I will squeeze the 2 beds in the same room somehow. I don't think I'll do bunk beds, because the girls are so young. But it will depend. We have a little table a chairs in the room also and I'm planning on getting some kind of bookshelf. It's not a very big room. Oh and it has to be a princess theme, I've been told by Isabelle yesterday, or else she's moving back with Tyler. LOL

Well my oldest he never attempted to climb out of his crib and we didn't move him to a toddler bed until he was closer to 3. London hasn't even tried, so I'm not in any hurry unless I have another one before then. London currently has her nursery furniture. Her bed breaks down into a toddler bed then you can use the back of the crib as a headboard for a full size bed. Also i did her nursery theme in pink, lavendar, lime green with butterflies so her theme will last a while.
If London's bed didn't break down into a toddler bed then i would go straight to a twin bed. I think it really depends on the kid when they are ready to transition. Some are ready right now because they just won't stay in thier cribs. She may really surprise you and do very well in a big girl bed. I think if I was having another one now then i would definately transition her to a toddler bed before baby came. Good luck KUP!

We just moved Ellie to a toddler bed last night. We have been co-sleeping up to this point and she made it about 4 hours before I brought her into bed with us again when she woke up. I opted for the toddler bed over the crib because she still nurses to sleep often and I'm too short to lean all the way over the rail to lay her in the crib. Plus she is a climber and I worry about her trying to climb out.

We're co-sleeping and have no intentions of changing things up any time soon. Juliana does sleep in a big girl bed for naps, but only because we nurse and/or rock her to sleep before putting her there.

Eva was in her crib until 3 and then transitioned into a twin size bed. We will probably do the same with Isaac.

We'll eventually have both girls sharing a room. We bought a bunk bed and repo'd the crib/toddler bed when we found out we were pg with DD2. DD1 is in the lower bunk right now.

Have you thought about doing a trundle bed instead? I wish I had!

I am due in August so I have been wondering the same thing. My LO hasn't tried climbing out of his crib yet, so I don't think he is ready for a toddler bed. And I have always heard that moving a kid to a new room or bed around the time a new baby arrives could be a bad thing because of all the big changes happening at once. So my plan is to keep my LO in his room with the same furniture and will buy new stuff for the new baby.

Sarah shares her room right now so there won't be any big redecorating. The type of bed she switches to will depend on how old she is when she stops using the crib. So far she still sleeps well in it and has shown no desire to climb out or anything so I'm planning to keep her in there well past 2 if possible.

I've been thinking about this too. We're still in the crib over here, but I've been thinking about moving her to the toddler bed anyway. I keep thinking if I wait til she's trying to climb out of the crib, will I not just set myself up for failure moving a kid who already wants out, an easier way to do it? Maybe if I do it now, she'll be less inclined or interested in escaping it.
hmmmm. overthinking maybe? I'm proned to doing that sometimes.

Adeline is still in her crib and we aren't going to TTC until next February so my plan is to keep her in the crib as long as possible, then we will convert it to the toddler bed.

when we only had Rebecca, the plan was to keep her in her crib until she started to climb out, was potty trained, or we had a new baby. but then DH's aunt gave us a twin bed they were going to get rid of, so we tried her in it and she was great. she's been in that twin bed since the month she turned 2. she got "big girl" bedding for her second birthday lol
with Nathan, he will be in his crib until he starts climbing out for sure. he would NOT do well in a bed, he wouldn't stay in it! he needs to be confined to his crib or he won't sleep. it wasn't always this way, he slept in our bed until he was 1, he's only been in his crib 6 months.

Lennon is not ready for a toddler bed yet but we still have the a yellow car toddler bed from Levi when he does. All other furniture will stay with him.

Rosie is no where near ready. I thought she wasn't trying to crawl out but the other day I watched her through the door and she was trying. So Josh lowered it to its last setting now she can't do it. But I also think as long as I can keep her contained the better at this point. Joshua still is in our room in the pack n play or in bed with us since he nurses a lot yet at night.
I plan on skipping the toddler bed and going to a twin. Not sure though.

We will be moving Alison into a room with her big sister before the baby comes. We have bunk beds in there so it is pretty much ready to go except for some organizing. I'm not sure if we will keep the beds and bunks or put them both on the ground for now. I'm not worried about my oldest sleeping on the top, but Alison loves to climb up there when given the chance but doesn't know how to climb down.
