I know that most of you have already transitioned your LO's from bottle to sippy cup. Can you tell me how it went? Was there a few difficult days of temper tantrums or did your LO refuse to drink milk for some time? My LO refuses to drink milk out of a sippy cup and a I tried to not give him an option but it didn't last more than a day, I gave in and gave him a bottle. I would love to hear any advice/tips.

we had been trying sippy cups for a while
and finally found one he would use so we gradually phased a bottle over a couple days
at the end it was just the bottle before bed that we had left and he didn't put up a fight
good luck!

I anticipated a fight with Maggie, but was really surprised when I didn't get one. I just made sure to erase any sight of the bottles when we made the transition. She was using a sippy for everything but milk at the time too. Wouldn't take it with milk, but it was also because that was associated with our bedtime routine. If she had any sight to the bottles, I firmly believe it would have been a huge failure.
So, hid them one night, and the next day, we went through all the same routines, but instead of giving her the bottle, we gave her the sippy before bed with her milk in it, and that was that.
I hope you find something that works. Good luck.

Isaac never took a bottle so he just went straight to a sippy cup but I would say just keep offering the sippy cup often and he will eventually take it. Try not to stress to much.

I just kept offering London the sippy instead of the bottle. She was really easy with transitioning. I agree with noworries, try not to stress to much.

I'm mean, I just take away the bottle. Bishop was harder to find the right cup but it seems he takes to the take and toss ones much easier. My others had no issues.

We started letting Adeline play with a sippy cup around 6 months old and by her first birthday she was a pro with it so we just took the bottles away and never had a problem.

Wyatt never liked the true sippy cup...and much preferred the straw cups so we went with that...

Have you tried different kinds of sippies? If he really likes the bottle, maybe he woudl like one of the "sports bottle" type sippies that look more like an adult would use. But I agree about not stressing, and just keep trying!

Ellie only uses the straw ones too. I'm still trying to teach her how to drink Tom a regular sippy.

Yes I feel like I have tried every sippy cup out there. I did try the sports bottle type too. This might sound crazy but I thought about buying new bottles, the Nuk brand looks like you can remove the nipple and replace it with a silicone sippy spout, so then it turns into a sippy cup. I thought maybe if he got used to that bottle then he would be ok with me changing the spout. Right now he uses dr. browns bottles and he is so attached to them I don't know if he would even take a different type of bottle. I wish there was a sippy spout that would fit onto the dr. browns bottles.

Have you tried a regular cup? Maybe make it a "big boy" thing. I saw today that Avent is making a training cup that you drink out of like an adult cup, but it has handles and it supposedly spill-proof(though I find the spill-proof hard to believe, but even if it was less messy than a normal cup it would be awesome). Maybe try just a normal cup, or a normal cup and normal straw just like the adults use. Bottles could be for sleep times for now, and he has to use his big boy cup during the day. I don't know if this will work, I was just trying to think of other things that may help. Otherwise, with both girls I found that if I stopped being interested in them giving up the bottle, they both did it on their own when they were ready. Good luck!

It was really easy with Juliana but she only had maybe 2-3 bottles per week. I don't even know exactly how it happened. There was a period when we were doing some bottles and some sippies and gradually it went to all sippies.

I had been stressing over this like crazy...I never thought I'd have an 18-month-old who still used bottles (one in the morning and one at night, but still!). This week I was cleaning out some cabinets and put a sippy that we hardly used into the trash. Claire got into the trash, got the sippy, and asked for milk I washed the sippy, put milk in it, and she actually drank it!!
I know this probably isn't helping you too much, except I wanted to say that one day he might just decide that he is ready. Claire is stubborn and she'll only do things when she puts her mind to it...that might be scary in a few more years

My advice is just throw away (or hide away) bottles and that's it. Don't worry about him not drinking milk, he will eventually. I got rid of my daughters bottles at 15 months and she would NOT drink milk from a sippy.....until 2 weeks later.
Good luck! I think its like pulling off a bandaid, they are going to scream and cry at the beginning but its much better than putting the bandaid back on and ripping it off over and over, you know?

At first it was hard. I had to pick a cup that I guess felt like her bottle. One day (two days before her 1st birthday) I tried the sippy cup again and she took it. I threw all the bottles out so it wouldn't confuse her.

My suggestion was going to be the same as madelyn and olivia's mom... try a regular cup.
