I hadn't even heard of it before because I don't pay much attention to cars, so I just let DH pick out what he thought would work and then I got to approve it.

the major reason derek says he doesnt want a van is because they are bad on gas... but i think another reason is they arent very manly

I will be honest. It is not awesome with gas, but the gas mileage isn't terrible either. No big car is really going to be great unless you shell out for a hybrid. It's manageable for us without taking up a ton more than the car we replaced which was a 10 year old Nissan Altima.

Yeah, any SUV, van, etc. is not going to be great on gas. Our van gets about 22 mpg combined city and highway driving.
My favorite thing about our van is the automatic doors. I can just push a button on the key fob to open the doors or back hatch. Very convenient when you have your hands and arms full.
Our van is loaded too which is nice. DVD player, heated leather seats, everything. And the back seats fold into the floor so we have lots of space to pack stuff if needed.

That is my dh's biggest reason as well. He is against the van or suv because of the gas prices.

Woo! Almost time to go to the chiropractor! I am excited. I've been having some sinus issues lately and I bet this is gonna fix them right up. I love it when he adjust my back and I can just feel my sinuses opening up. So weird, but so awesome. Haha!

I want a milkshake. A shamrock shake from micky d's. Someone mentioned it the other day, now that is all I want.
