So we had Haley's 4 year check up last week and she was 43lbs and 41 inches. The Dr said she is the 90% and needs to lose 5-10 lbs what she does not look overweight i remember when she was little only weighing 7lbs at 2 months old and being hospitalized for throwing up all her food the old Dr said she would never be on the charts past 50% she don't eat much and they weighed her with her clothes on.... i don't want to starve her she literally picks at her food and throws most away what do i do

jeez, i don't know what to tell you. i would never put a child on a diet but i'd be very mindful of what foods they were eating and maybe get lower calories substitutes of the things they eat if the doc was worried about their weight. i have the total opposite issue with brandon, he's not even 30lbs yet!

My friend Megan has the same problem with her son. The doctor lectures her about his weight. The boy is solid...not fat...and he's on the short side like his dad. If she's picking at her food then what CAN you do really?? I dunno..what kind of milk are you all drinking. They told her to switch to 1% or skim milk dairy products.
What's strange is...Lauren is underweight...31lbs. She is in the 17% for weight. Her doctor was actually pleased. She said that if she gained any more weight she would be overweight and that she's "just a small girl".

Hmmm, trust your motherly instinct. If you say she is not overweight she probably isn't. We have the opposite problem here, Skya is only 28 pounds.

Just coming acrossed this, but i have twin 4 year old girls and they are exactly the same size of yours! My doc said they are on the higher side of normal but they are just fine and there is nothing to worry about! Sounds wierd to me to put a 4 year old on a diet. Has she gained a bunch of weight in the last year? That would be the only reason why i would think the doc would be worried, I say find a new doctor! My girls were born in September 2005 and were only 3pounds 5 ounces, and 2 pounds 15 ounces so they have came a long way! My girls are not fat by any means, but they are definitely bigger then most 4 year olds! Hope u don't mind my two cents!

That's crazy, I just went to the Dr. for Davey today too, he's 39.5 lbs and the Dr didn't say a thing to me about him being overweight. Is Haley solid? Davey is and always has been a very muscular kid, even as a baby he didn't have many chunky rolls like other babies did, his pedi back then even told me he was just a solidly built baby.
I'd probably find a new Dr.
If it were me, I might try and see a nutritionist or something, maybe they can give you more insight as to hat she should and shouldn't be eating/snacking on/drinking.

Oh please. She looks perfectly healthy and normal in your pics. You can do simple things like skim milk, no juice or pop, etc. and maybe the doc will get off your case if you tell her you're making an effort

thats crap. Kyleigh is almost 42lbs and her weight to height ratio is normal. I wouldnt worry about it seriously. if you feel like u need to make changes then i would do skim milk, healthy snack etc.

Did she jump up on the chart for weight? Thats the only reason I can think her ped would say something.

Well spencer is just about the same size as Haley. When we went for his 4 year check up a couple days ago, he was 44lbs and 42.5" tall. He also is in the 90th percentile for height and weight, and our dr said, yep he's gonna be a tall one just like his daddy! And that was all that was said. As long as she isn't like 25th for height or something I wouldn't worry about it. I would NEVER put a child this age on a diet. Like someone else said, maybe subsitute to a lower % milk and cut the juice or something like that, but don't put her on a diet, especially if she's already picking at her food. IF you force the issue, it will become a bigger issue. I think she looks just perfect from the pics I've seen!

wow! I dont know what a normal weight for girls at this age is but Cohen is only 2-3 lbs lighter than her. He has always been around the 85th percentile for height and weight. My doctor told me that means he is right on track because both his height and weight are in the same category. She would worried if say his weight percentile was high and his height low... but he is expected to be that weight for his heigh kwim? I find the idea of your doctor actually suggesting you help her lose weight rather ludicrous. Even if she WERE overweight its more logical to help her thin out as she grows than to diet. Anyway, I would simply ensure that you are making healthy food choices like the others said. But as long as you are offering healthy food choices, I wouldn't worry.

Heck she harldy ever eats period she takes a couple bites and throws it away... i am just gonna keep doing what i am and see ho wthis year goes belive me i think that if she looked over weight to em i would be concerned thanks girls
