Oh my goodness, that is SO sad!!! I personally could never own a snake, primarily for that reason. Jason's uncle has a python, and I won't even go near it. They are not animals that were meant to be domesticated. My heart goes out to the family and friends of that little girl. How heartbreaking!

This is sad, but ironically.... My burmese python Pixie passed away this week unexepctedly but maybe it was a sign with a baby on the way.....

Even if Pixie was still alive there was no way she would have gotten out of her tank, its a glass, wood, and metal one that the only opening to get out, is that you need a key to open it... first of all a quilt and string is not a secured way to have a snake in captivity.... Irresponsible pet owners in my opinion

I agree that it was negligent and irresponsible pet ownership that led to this tragedy. I love snakes and think they are great pets, but, as all animals do, need the proper understanding and care conditions. A string and quilt are obviously poor containment methods for a python that is large enough to eat a small child.
