to me, gaining only 6 pounds when you are due in august isn't too bad at all! is there a reason he is wanting you to lose weight besides the obvious, like high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, anything like that?
if it were me, i wouldn't necessarily go on a "diet" while preggo, but just keep a closer eye on what you are eating. if you are craving sweet stuff, maybe try a fruit smoothie (my favorite was fresh pineapple chopped up and blended with ice and diet sprite) instead of something fattening. good luck!

for me, doing light exersize, swimming, tredmill, light weight training, helped tone me up this pregnancy. i've only gained 10 pounds. i had actually lost 19 in the beginning but not due to diet. i just couldnt keep anything down.

eat nothing but healthy foods, and exersize 3x a week for a half an hour and you'll feel so much better and you'll have an easier time not gaining as much weight.

i think only gaining 6 pounds is fine, as long as you keep up the good work

So, your doctor wants you to lose weight, but then offers no guidance?

I've been trying to eat healthier snacks - cucumber slices, carrot sticks, drinking tons of water. I am still gaining weight, but I feel like if I gain it while eating healthier it's not so bad.

Everything I have ever read about diets is that you should NEVER diet when you are pregnant. You need extra calories and food for the growing baby. and you are supposed to gain weight.

Maybe just try healther snacks and see if that helps.

I wouldn't worry about dieting or losing weight, but maybe trying to maintain. Drink water and watch out of salty foods. And eatting smaller amouts thur out the day instead of 3 main meals may help because its easier to digest. Plus your body gets use to less being in there and your belly shrinks so you cant eat as much.

Well i know what cause the spurt of weight gain the past four weeks... well my bday was march 9th and since then i have had three bday parties lol.. LOTS OF CAKE...

this pregnancy has been great for cravings cause i craved veggies. i crave carrots and cucumber salads... also when i want ice cream i freeze yogurt tubes and eat the frozen yougurt. I have also tried to eat cottage cheese for breakfast as my first major proteein so im not starving two hours later, but i still snack.

I was doing herbal magic prior to getting pregnant and carried alot of the good eating habits with me. over my bday i drank more pop then water, but that was also my bad and i told him i refused to apologise for that cause it was my special day that i didnt get last year. so now i am back to water..... it just makes me mad cause there isnt anything wrong cept my weight... NO high bp, NO GD, NO glucose in my urine.

I was very concerned about my weight at my first doctor's visit. I have been going to this doctor for over 10 years and feel very comfortable with him meaning I am not afraid to ask him a question or voice a concern. When I even mentioned the word "diet" to him- he immediately began shaking his head and said "A diet has no place in a pregnancy, if you eat right, healthy, exercise and listen to what I tell you - you will be fine". I firmly believe him. Now the funny thing is I weight about 248 when I went to see him - and after eating more healthy foods I lost 4 lbs. - didn't really try to - just be eating more healthy choices and drinking tons of water. I have yet to get that exercise down - but working on it.

Of course we all want to believe what our doctor's tell us because "they do know best" - but I am afraid that you may rob your precious child of essential vitamins and nutrients he may need. Good luck girl!
