I have 2 very young sisters,14 and 10. The 14 year old has had fb for a while now and she just made the 10 year old an account. I think the rules for fb are that you must be 13 to have an account.

I don't mind to much that she has it,it makes chatting to her easier since we don't talk on the phone and she lives so far away. Tonight we were chatting and she's like "my mom is concerned about my fb account". I said of course she is,you're to young to have and need to be careful. I told her she should give her mom (she isn't my mom and we don't talk at all,she doesn't like me) the password so she can check her account from time to time. She insists she doesn't do anything bad and I said that's ok,but hey I'm an adult and I've gotten many friend requests from people (men) that I don't know and even one man sent me a message asking me for a date when I first joined FB. My other sister when I found her on facebook when I got my account I called our dad asap (even though we weren't talking at the time) and told him he better get on FB and make sure she took off he profile picture. I didn't like seeing her leaning a little to forward in her low cut shirt! I reported the pic as well to FB. I'm thinking of reporting this new account.

Now the annoying part. My sis and I were chatting and she knows of course that I'm pregnant and single, like not with the father but doesn't know any details really. She asked me tonight "are you seeing anyone?". What???? You're 10 you can't ask me that! It's just a little weird to ask that. I was like,no I'm pregnant and want to focus on the baby now. "But are you seeing anyone as a friend though?" no I'm not. It made me think she was asking for someone else. I don't know. Then a few days ago I asked her when school started again and she's like "sometime in September" and I'm like yeah of course but what day? She doesn't know she says. So tonight I ask her and her friend who she said is there with her "so you start school Monday then?". She doesn't know!!! I told her she should know this by now. Seriously!

I do think 10 is too yound unless the parent has them under strict watch. Some parents may not mind so the child can keep in touch with family and so on but id think they would want to watch it very close. Honestly I think 14 is almost too young to be on there with no supervision..I'm not saying u should spy on the 14 year old because teens need to feel like they have some privacy and their own lil place in the world...these things can help make them comfortable with who they are and responsible...but there still needs to be well defined limits...girls that are 14 have a huge chance of being victims because there are older guys out there who are sickos and like young girls...and the girls also want to be grown and date older guys sometimes...

Yeah its odd that a kid that young asked u that....kids now days just aren't the same as we were and we weren't the same as our parents...

I do check the 14 year old page all the time and look at her friends pics from time to time,I've reported a few as well. She was 9 when she got her own laptop and no supervision was ever given to what she did on there. When I saw that she'd had some page (maybe myspace or something else) where she'd put her school info I was so angry and called my dad and explained how and why to get that info off of the net.

At least the mom is showing some concern now,but she probably won't do anything. She doesn't call me and she won't either and my dad told me to never call him again,so I can't do much this time except report the page if I see her heading for trouble.

I'm ok with kids having facebook to play games on I guess or keep in touch with far off relatives, but the parents should also have access to that account at anytime!

My son is 11 and wants a facebook account...I kind of want him to have one for a few reasons...

1. He's DYING to play farmville LOL and all of those games
2. We moved and all this friends at the old school have an account and since we never see those people it would be a nice way to KIT

BUT...if you have ME on facebook you know that I swear like a sailor...report innappropriate things...I have a few kids on my facebook but one is my friends daughter...she is 12 and she's mature for her age, she isn't going to hear me swear and go run off and swear...and her mom okayed her to add me knowing how I am...and I have a former student who is now 16...SHE KNOWS I have a life outside of teaching. And we're "friends" now, I told her two years ago to just call me Angela now.

BUT...Justin is too young to hear my rants LOL!

ALSO...if Justin hs facebook he can log in from his dad's and see my stuff and I don't want his dad having access to my info if Justin is on my friends list. Not that there is anything he doesn't know...but I do enjoy bashing him about once a week on facebook.

BUT...he's going in 6th grade...all the other kids might have facebook accounts...argh. I don't know.

I think 10 is way too young for a Facebook account and I'm not crazy about a 14 year old having one. I'm old fashioned and my kids won't be having computers in their rooms or having thier own cell phones. If they want to do Facebook from the living room computer and have me as a friend so I can view all their information then maybe I would say ok.
