Kellen was sitting in Kensley's elmo chair today (soft foamy thing for toddlers) and he looked like he really enjoyed sitting up.
I was thinking of getting him a bumbo. I never did for Kensley...
so...
Here are my questions:
How long will they actually use them? Seems like a lot of $ to spend for just a month or so of use
He's not a small guy, what are the size constraints?
Do you all (who've used them) like them? Any positives or negatives you can share?
Is there anything else more "chairish" that an infant can sit in and it can grow with him? He's got a bouncer rocker thing, but it's not really a chair and he can't sit straight up in it. We do have a high chair we could use, but it's so far off the floor, I think he likes sitting on the floor at the same level as Kensley.
If nothing else, I'll look for one on Craig's List... Just want to see if it's worth my time and $...

Consignment shops usually have TONS of them and the material is so easy to lysol/bleach clean! I found them at one for like $15.00 instead of the $40.00
Avery loved hers and used it for quite a few months when she was a baby. And she was a big baby too. I do agree that it is too expensive though. I got Averys off EBAY. I don't remember how much I paid for it but it was less than half of what it costs in the store and it was brand new. Even if you get a used one, just clean it with hot soapy water and sanitize it first and it should be okay.
Well Grace is a lil chubster and so far she fits in it with alot of room. she doesnt love it tho....and she loves to sit. i finally set her high chair up, and THAT she loves. Its the kind that you strap onto a regular chair. the bumbos r alot of money just to sit there! i got mine as a gift, i dont think i would buy one myself.
OH, hmmm... Nichole, you reminded me, we have a booster seat with a tray. I be the can sit in that I'll try these first. The bumbo's look great, but we really don't need another "thing" in the house, particularly if it's not going to last long for use-wise.

My consignment shop had them for $20. I bought a new BebePod instead though. It's roomier in the leg area for chunky thighs and CD and it comes with a snack tray and toy for $40. Faira has been in hers(she doesn't love it yet)for 3 weeks and I expect her to use it for about 6 months in all. My older two,who were weak sitters for a long time, could have used this product but I was too cheap to get one. Luckily I had a gift certificate this time around.
Maybe someone who has used one with a grown child can tell you if it's worth it or not.
You can use it for more than one child and then resell it and get some money back. They seem to hold a decent amount of value.
logan loved ours.. he couldn't sit on his own for a LONG time ... i don't think the bumbo was the cause though as he could crawl, stand and cruise and do stairs before he learned to sit,,, he was smaller but he sat in it forever
gavin likes it now but i am still aware that be gets a bobble head sometimes so iam not sure if he is ready.. he has good head control but sitting in the chair he get bobbly....
i think it is a hit or miss item .... either love it or hate it.... i agree try to get it second hand!
edit... i agree the booster on the floor would work!
Celia is getting one for Christmas and I can't wait to try it! Good to know about the consignment shop, i'd like her grandparents in California to be able to have one at their house.
Not that that answers any of your questions Gwynne! lol
Our church nursery has one, so I tried Eli in it on Wednesday night and he LOVED it! He looked so grown up sitting in it! However, I refuse to pay 40$ for it! I have been looking on Craigslists and have seen a few for 15-20$ instead! We don't have a highchair and I am planning on starting to start cereal in about a week or so, so I am planning on using the bumbo as kind of a highchair Someone told me they are great for helping to build up their back muscles!
I also saw an 11 month old try to sit in it.... she got stuck and it was the funniest thing ever!!

We're visiting the consignment shop next week to get one for Christmas! I woudl have gotten one sooner if they weren't so darn expensive! Lucy loves sitting up.
I also agree that the booster on the floor sounds like a great alternative!
we have the Bebe Pod and so far Bryson loves it- he got this huge grin on his face the first time I sat him in it- like "look what I can do mom!" so cute- I like that it came with a tray and toy (got ours as a shower gift though, not sure I would pay the big $$ for it)
We have one and Aurora really likes sitting up in it and watching what's going on.
I used it a LOT with my first... I used it for all of her baby food feedings since she was still so small for the highchair (seriously the tray would be up to her chin every time I sat her in it! ) and it was so much easier to bring with us if we were going somewhere and she'd sit happily in it for a long time.
She learned how to wiggle out of it around 8 months. But still LOVES sitting in it now at 22 months... my niece and Alex both fight over who gets to sit in it whenever Aurora isn't using it So we're seeing a lot of use out of ours still.
I do recommend it. I have had so many older people stop and tell us that they thought it was so awesome and that they wished they had something like that when their children were babies... whenever they'd see Alex sitting in it at our restaurant.
I bought LO a Super Seat instead of the Bumbo. It have a soft seat like Bumbo, a tray with toys like an excersuacer, and converts into a booster seat. It was $50 at BRU, but I had a gift card.
Max loves his! I have a friend who used hers with her son until he was 18 mos. And my roommate's BF's son is 4 and likes to sit in Max's, but his butt gets stuck.
We got Kaylee's at Once Upon a child for $20 instead of the normal 35. She LOVES it! She LOVES LOVES to sit up in it and play with toys...she'll do it long enough for me to do dishes or cook dinner.
Logan loves his bebePod BUT he's so tall that the back doesn't really seem to help him. He does the head bobble alot in there so I have to be right next to him and he can't stay in too long AND his chunky monkey legs are getting hard to pull out of the slots but he really does love it...
