Betsy had her four month appointment today. Of course, being the good mommy that I am, I just had to stay home from work and take care of her today (she did have a moderate bad reaction the last time). My little Acorn isn't so little any more: 14 pounds 8 ounces (75th).....24.5 inches (50th).....and a head circumference of 16.5 inches (75th -- and she can blame me for her pumpkin head!). Everything looks good and we got the go ahead to start cereal if we want to -- we'll probably start that on Friday night. She got the second dose of her rotavirus and DTaP vax today as well. Right now she's sleeping peacefully in her car seat right next to me at the kitchen table (while I grade papers -- ugh, back for a week and already the paperwork starts!).
Interestingly, the pedi said that he felt that tummy time was overrated. As anyone else ever been told this? I've been scared lately that her refusal for tummy time would impact her ability to roll back over if she flipped in her crib at night, but according to him, it's not that crucial to do (especially with a baby that hates it like Betsy).

Yay big girl, Betsy!! Glad to hear all is well. My family practice doc pushed the tummy time in the beginning saying we should do it 3 times a day for as long as he would tolerate, but she doesn't even ask about it anymore because his head control is so good. Glad your pedi was honest about his thoughts on it! I can't see torturing a baby that hates it to make them do it all the time!
Big Betsy! Enjoy your day together. I hope there is not much reaction from the vaccines. Tummy time? Who cares.. She will learn what she needs to even without it

Way to grow Betsy! (I always have the urge to call her Betsy boo I am such a weirdo! I almost just typed it!)
Let us know how the cereal goes! And make sure to take pics
P.s. My pedi said the same thing about tummy time!

Yay Betsy! Side thought, do you ever call her Elisabeth? Betsy and Layla are almost the same size
Good mommy for staying home.
I've never been big on tummy time.

I call her Betsy Boo all of the time! She has no problem with her JM aunties calling her that too!
As far as calling her Elisabeth -- I've done it a few times but it just seems so grown-up right now. We gave her a formal first name for when she was older and a cute little nickname for right now. She's my little Betsy! Of course, all of her appointments are scheduled as Elisabeth, so that's always weird to hear.

Add Faira to the same size club: 14lb 9.5 oz, 25.5 inches and 16.5 inch head. We got the go ahead for cereal too. So strange how it's ok now to start earlier. Just a few years ago when my older two were babies it was wait until 6 months!
It's strange you should mention the tummy time thing. I thought it was odd that my Dr mentioned babies being frustrated with tummy time at this age. I Faira was just frustrated with being prodded at that point in the appointment. :/
I think it's important to have "free motion" time. Back or belly whatever your baby prefers. They'll learn how to wriggle and move to get what they want just fine.
Yay Betsy!!! So glad she is thriving. Have not heard that about tummy time but it makes sense. Wren hasn't had much of it and she has crazy good strength in her neck and chest.
So glad she did better this time around No one here is a fan of tummy time either. Once in a blue moon he'll tolerate it and by tolerate I mean he lays there and licks the mat
Glad she had and great appt and that you got to spend an extra day with her.

I agree. My aunt calls it having the least restrictive environment-so not in a swing, or bouncer, etc-letting them be fully in control of their body.
I always feel weird being called "Bethany" when it comes to appointments and whatnot.
I have no idea how Betsy became a nickname for Elisabeth/Elizabeth. I know that it's an old-fashioned nickname that goes back a couple hundred years (like Betsy Ross!). You can also use the nickname of Betty as well, although I refuse to call her that -- Betsy sounds cute, Betty sounds like, well, Betty White.
I didn't know your given name was Bethany! I figured it was Margaret or Megan.
