I needed some help figuring out a nap schedule.
We go to sleep and wake up at a pretty consistant time. He's taking a morning nap around the same time every day but I can't figure out when the best time to put him down for an afternoon nap would be.
Could you ladies take a look at his sleep/eat schedule and tell me when you think would be best? I'm hoping to get his naps figured out this next week. I'm wondering how 2:30 or 3:00 p.m. would do? The problem with the afternoon nap for us is to find a balance of a time when it's late enough for him to be tired but not too late so that he's not tired afterwards and it messes up his sleep at night. This nap thing has been a big problem for us.

7:30 a.m. Wake up for the day
7 oz. bottle

9:30 a.m. Eat 2 tbsp. oatmeal cereal

10:00-12:00 Morning nap

12:30 p.m. 7 oz. bottle

5:30 p.m. 7 oz. bottle

8:00 p.m. 2 tbsp. oatmeal cereal

10:00 p.m. 4 oz. rice bottle
Asleep for the night

I am no help because I let Eli nap when he is tired! But I wanted to say- he usually takes a nap anywhere from 3-4 and he sleeps fine at night. He also goes to bed at night around 10-10:30 HTH

Same here, I just follow his cues for tiredness, but we don't have a set schedule to wake up every day. It all depends on what type of night we had.
I would throw in a nap somewhere between his two PM bottles.

I also go by cues but Caleb wakes at 7-8am and usually goes down for a nap between 9-10am and then again between 1-2pm. And goes to bed between 7-8pm. His first nap is usually 1.5 hrs and his second only an hr.

Dr. Weisbluth of Healthy Sleep, Happy Child says that daytime sleep doesn't start to consolidate until after 5 months. Before then, he says that about two hours of wakefulness is the norm, and one should watch for signs of sleepiness. I'm starting on the scheduled naps in addition to those, though, since my babe is hard to read. He says the first nap to appear is the morning nap at about 9am, and it sounds like you have that one down pat. The second to appear is the afternoon nap at about 1pm. Some kids need a third nap that is variable but somewhere between 3pm and 5pm. Eris is still needing about 4 naps a day, though. :-P

OMG OMG OMG!!!
I'm so excited I just had to share.
This has NEVER EVER happend before.
But Gabriel went to sleep ON HIS OWN for TWO naps today.
HALLELUIA!!!
Naps have been such a hard struggle for us bc he always wants to be held and he always fights his sleep for nap time.
This is the first time this has ever happend and I cannot tell you how excited I am and how proud of him I am!!! I just really hope this isn't a one time occurance but a new habit.
For both a morning and afternoon nap I didn't rock him to sleep but just layed him in his crib and I only had to go in there to pat his back when he was fussing once before he soothed himself to sleep!!
I am one happy momma today ladies!!!!
