Elaina has always preferred sleeping in her car seat because of her reflux and the security feel of it. However she's gotten to where she'll climb out of it and fall asleep on the mattress if we don't hear her right away. So we bit the bullet and put her to sleep on her tummy last night. I was a nervous wreck all night. I'm not sure why because I always let my boys sleep on their tummies.
Well, wouldn't you know SHE SLEPT ALL NIGHT LONG!!!! 8:30pm-6:00am...Woot!! I checked on her several times however so it wasn't a full night of sleep for me but I hope this is the start of something and wasn't just a fluke. She has woken up 1-4 times a night for months and has never officially EVER slept through the night so this is a first!! So anyway, how many of you let your baby tummy sleep without the comfort of the angelcare monitor? Do you think I should get one for my own peace of mind? I know they say SIDS is more of a concern up to 12 months of age....but our babies will be there before you know it...do you think I should spend the money on something I'll really only need for a few more months?
Lastly, please cross your fingers that this STTN continues
in all honesty i got over the worry fast. There is no proof that it is even the cause of SIDS. all my older family membes reminded me that as kids were all put to sleep on our tummies b/c that was the recommendation back then Anyhow, the first night or so when Drake wanted to be on his tummy i was definetly a little nervous as well. But when they can flip by themselves anyway I figure it does not matter b/c you can lay them on their back and they will turn just like we do to whatever makes them feel comfie. Also I have watched Drake and he actively flips his head back and forth and I just really feel at this age he is not going to just lay there smooshed in the sheets and no realize he needs to flip his head
That being said, if you are not getting any sleep and this goes on for a few nights then it may very well help you feel more comfortable to get an angelcare monitor. I did not get one but I have heard they do provide comfort
and yes most definetely we hope the STTN continues!!

thank you tasha_mae for the great siggy!
Eli has been sleeping on his tummy since 2 months without an angelcare monitor. At first I was worried, but that is just how he likes to sleep, so I got over it. SIDS isn't caused by sleeping on tummy. It is a "risk factor", but really I think it is more of a suffocation risk factor than anything. Babies have passed from SIDS while fully awake and playing, it is something that can not be prevented.
I would let her just sleep on her tummy and TRY not worry. I know the first couple nights I would check his breathing every once in a while if I woke up at night, but he has been fine every time.
Crossing my fingers she sleeps like this for you from now on

I put Chase to bed on his back, but he rolls to some very strange positions when he sleeps. I think his favorite is butt up in the air with his legs under him and his face smashed into the mattress. I don't use any monitors. I wish he would sttn though!
I think the others said it well. Haddyn does not sleep on her tummy but she is not even rolling or pushing herself up yet. Also I think if they have a more firm mattress that helps with the safety.
I think that all my older girls slept on their bellies.... I think that we are just moms who care so of course we will be nervous but I now you will use your better judgement. If you think she can move herself around enough then she can
I have one cause I am a worry wart. I didn't have one with O and it was fine, but with N I felt like I needed it. When we travel, we don't bring it and I feel nervous without it but she is fine each time.

Jack also sleeps on his tummy and I just have a regular monitor. I lay him on his back and he flips to his tummy automatically. I was totally paranoid at first, but he moves around so much that I figured he would be able to turn if needed. He still doesn't STTN though! I hope little Miss E continues for you!
I put Ava to bed on her back adn as soon as I lay her down and walk out of the room she turns over on to her belly. We don't have anything tha tmonitors the bed, just her baby monitor i can hear her sign everyonce in a whlie. i'm not worried i was a belly sleeper and still am. my whole life (except when preg) i sleep on my belly even as a new born my self
Jackson is just like Chase... Jackson is put in the crib on his back or side and then he wiggles all over the place until he finds his comfy spot... Either flat on his tummy or butt up in the air....
No Angel Care Monitor... We do have video monitor on him though and it flips between him and Emmie - so we keep video on him and we have the sound on her and if we hear anything with her then we can flip the channels...

Kierson is a tummy sleeper and I don't have a monitor. Hes been sleeping this way since about 5-6 weeks old.. I worry myself sick about Kierson.. but worrying does no good!
I'd say if shes sleeping well, don't bother with a monitor. Is she in a crib on a firm mattress?
Oh, last I'd like to say.. I hope the sleeping through the night continues! I'm still working on Kierson with this!!
I put Olivia in her PnP and she usually starts on her back watching tv, then rolls to her side, and then back and forth from belly, to side, to back, and back to belly. She's all over the place. She has a pillow and blankie too (she covers her lower half up on her own).. We don't have a monitor but she still wakes up a few times a night for bottles but I feel pretty comfortable with it.

Ryan has been sleeping on him tummy since 3 months I think. I almost got an angelcare monitor but after a few days, I quit worrying about it. I figured as long as he can roll back and forth, he would be ok. He's so much happier on his tummy thought
I have one, but at this point we won't be using the movement sensor pad much longer. He just moves too much, scoots around, sits up, lays down, etc. I've had a few of the warning beeps, and one false alarm now that he scoots around in his crib. At this point, I wouldn't worry about it too much, now that they can pretty position themselves how they want to sleep, kwim? Hooray for STTN though, I still don't know what that's like! (with Reid anyways, Carter sttn, thank goodness!)
Just a regualar monitor here, and she is a side sleeper, but I've woke many mornings to her on her belly. In fact, she usually ends up on it. I don't worry about it too bad anymore. I wouldn't get an anglecare monitor at this point.
Thanks for all the input ladies, I appreciate it. Well, she didn't sttn last night bummer....her "white sound" (which is just a radio station) started squealing and squeaking around 1am and woke her up, thankfully she nursed for 5 minutes and was out again....however daddy woke her up at 4am getting ready for work she went back to sleep after fussing for a bit and slept til 9:30am so overall not too bad...if nothing wakes her up I think she may have another sttn kind of night soon, I sure hope so.
