Our laptop is dead and gone. DH spilled water on it about a week ago and it's ruined the good thing is We have a 500G external hard drive so EVERYTHING was on that thank goodness!

But now we need a new one and have no clue where to start looking! All we know is we want one that has great multitasking abilities and I do a lot of HD video editing so a laptop that isn't going to freeze everytime I open video would be great! We really want to stay in the $500-$700 ball park.

So what do you have?
What do you love about it?
What do you hate about it?
What do you use it for?
If you don't mind sharing how much was it?

Thanks ladies

So what do you have? A dell inspirion something
What do you love about it? NOTHING
What do you hate about it?EVERYTHING
What do you use it for? I did use it for photoshopping and internet
If you don't mind sharing how much was it?800ish

So, I haven't like it from day one. There have been nothing but problems with it, and it is finally dead! Mind you, it's not even one year old!!!

I LOVE my hp desktop, I just never get in here to get on it! I think I"m gonna get an ipad! Or a mac!

Ok, I know this isn't in your price range..... but....

So what do you have? MacBook Pro
What do you love about it? EVERYTHING
What do you hate about it? NOTHING. The only thing that was troublesome was learning how to go from PC to Mac. I am SO glad I did though.
What do you use it for? EVERYTHING! I do a lot video editing and photo editing. If you want to do video a Mac is your best bet. One of my best friends and her husbands are graphic designers and Macs are all they use.
If you don't mind sharing how much was it? The MacBook Pro was more pricey (1200.... thank you tax return), but there is a regular Macbook or even refurbished Macs that you can get for around 900$.

Honestly, when my lap top broke, I wanted to go the cheaper route because I just was NOT interested in spending the money. However, my dad is a HUGE computer guy and he convinced me otherwise. If you think about it and go with a cheaper PC, you will have to buy another laptop in ~4 years. Macs are much more reliable and not prone to viruses and can last you 7+ years.

JMHO.... but I am a HUGE Mac supporter

Oh Kelli I am not a fan of Macs BUT I would love one just for their video editing software unfortunately it's not feesable

We're looking at a customized Sony E series that we can customize to be able to edit my HD video without having to convert it first. That's really my main concern. I wish my brother was here so I could consult with him he's a super geek but he's in Afghanistan

We're still thinking about it but I think the Sony is our bet and it will end up being between 700 and 800 which still seems like a lot to me. But we're going to keep shooing around.

I'm a Mac girl so not really any help whatsoever.

I will say that my old laptop was an HP and was not so great. The fan ran constantly and it kept crashing.

I want to kiss and love my MacBook pro until the day I die. It's my work machine but I am allowed to do all my own personal stuff (videos and photos...come on girls, get your minds outta the gutter!) on it.

I know that doesn't help. If you are doing a lot of video editing, I would looks closely at the processor speed and what type of video card it has. Plus you'll need a lot of ram because videos take up a lot of room on a machine.

Good luck!

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 that was $600 3.5 years ago. It's nothing spectacular, but it works well enough for me.

I have to reign in hubby when it comes to compter spending since he forgets that it is OUR money he is spending and not WORK'S money! One of his current laptops (3 in all) was $8K and is bulletproof.

The one I looked at was $1200. Either way it just seems so outrageous! I think the only way we'd afford one is with our tax return like Kelli. We decided on a Sony and we really likethe specs we picked out for it. I cannot wait for it to get here

They should be 1200 Nichole, I don't know where you are looking? The Apple Store?

They also sell refurbished ones for less. But yes, they are outrageously priced!

Yep, I have a MacBook Pro here, too... I always wanted one, and when my Toshiba crashed, I called my dad to see if he had any on hand (he gets new laptops frequently and has very good "old" (1-2 year old) ones lying around... but he said he didn't and when we went to visit, he asked if I had a laptop yet and I said nope... so he took me to the Apple Store and got me my MacBook Pro it was a joined bday/Christmas present. I love it!

I hate: the fact that some of my software is not Mac compatible, which meanse I have to completely redo my website (since I can't update it as my old software is not mac compatible), and had to get the Windows for Mac software (I was hoping to steer away from that, but oh well). I guess my biggest complaint is that not everyone else is on Mac
