Please share your LO's symptoms during an ear infection.

Milan was super fussy last night and woke up screaming in the middle of the night ( very much not like him ). We ended up giving him meds in the evening and at night, because something was definitely wrong. I am suspecting an ear infection or maybe teething. He is acting fine today, his appetite is ok today, but last night he did not want to eat. He pulled on his right ear a lot last night, at night and in the morning. I am not sure what to think. Taking him to the doctor here results in a 3 hour wait, I would like to avoid it. What do you think? I don't see any new teeth or swollen gums...

Edited: He doesn't have a fever.

With both of my girls they have no symptoms (that we notice) when they have had ear infections. I have been told though to watch for tugging/pulling on their ears.

Based on what you have described I would lean towards ear infections. I would probably take him in. Hope he feels better!!!

Bryson pulls his ears alot when he is teething- I am always worried it is and ear infection but since he rubs/pulls both ears and has no fever I suspect teething- I would keep an eye on him and give motrin/tylenol as needed to see if it helps him? I think if it is an ear infection it will get worse not better

Did he have a runny nose recently? I know my DD would always develop ear infection when little after cold/runny nose. But she would usually have a fever with ear infection. I don't think she ever pulled on her ear but she was older (2.5 yrs first time) once she started having ear infections.

this last ear infection little Brandon got he did not have a real fever but he had a pretty bad double ear infection ... he's old enough that he could tell me his ear hurt though. he didn't have a runny nose - we went swimming the day before so i'm sure it's from that.

with Kaylee she usually gets fussy, usually has a runny nose and spikes a high fever.

I see those two can be really confusing. Both involve runny nose, fever and pain...
I think Milan is teething because he got a rash on his behind. This happens when he is teething. He was still pulling on his ear today. I gave him some oragel before bed and hope he will sleep well. He also has a low grade fever. So here it goes again. I wonder which teeth he is getting!

My kids tend to run higher fevers (102ish), VERY cranky-especially when laid on their backs for diaper changes because that increases the pressure, decreased appetite, frequent wakings (due to not liking being on their backs).

My DD usually gets a fever when she has ear infections, although she has had some where she doesn't get a fever. It is so difficult to tell! She gets fussy and cranky, but she has never pulled at her ears when she has ear infections.

Every baby is sooo different.
Luke and Evan stop sleeping at night and have super runny noses. No other symptoms. No fever, no ear pulling - but my ped says the ear pulling as a symptom for ear infections won't start until after a year - and no general fussiness.
I am sorry Milan feels bad!

I'm not really sure, but when Evan is teething he pulls on his ears, is extra fussy, wakes up more, and eats less. I hope he feels better soon!

With my girls they do not have hardly any symptoms with ear infections. Evie's older now and can tell me where it hurts. With Paige she just didn't want to eat. The pedi. says the suckling hurts them They had low grade fevers but nothing major noticeable. Just very cranky, didn't sleep or eat much. Hope he feels better soon!!

He is still not feeling 100%, his symptoms appear mostly in the evening and night. Last night he woke up crying again and would not stop. I picked him up, gave him meds and he wanted to nurse. He went back to sleep after it and slept till his usual wake up time. He poops a lot and his butt is still red. I am pretty convinced it is teeth related.
Thanks for the kind words girls.

When Hayden has had ear infections, he just seems overly fussy and sometimes pulls and playing with his ear. I hope he feels better soon!!!
