We filed then it said we would get our refund on Feb 14th. Then it said the 8th. Then it said the 6th. Then it was deposited on Saturday the 4th.....Early.

Now why did I get mine early when they can't give every one else their refunds? Stupid IRS.

We always receive ours before the promised time but I usually delay filing until April. Maybe things aren't as up-and-running this early? Don't they add employees to handle the rush as it gets closer to the deadline?
I obsess over every little thing to make sure our return is perfect. This year I got everything ready the first week of January and was ready and waiting for the W-2 to come so we could file early. We haven't filed yet though. DH's workplace sent out W-2's last week but we can't use that W-2. The company made an error with the year-end bonus checks. This required us to send back money to the company and file for an amended W-2 which we're still waiting for. *sigh*

What? That's messed up! If they screwed up, they should have let you keep the money!

A lot of people are planning to keep the money, most likely already spent on Christmas. That's not right and a sad commentary to life in America today.
It isn't ours unless it was earned or honestly obtained. The company just can't print money in the basement to cover an employee's mistake. It has to come from somewhere, like not giving deserving employees like my husband the raises or benefits he deserves. You know they're not going to take it out of stock dividends or management salaries.
I already sent back the money.

I can see your point, but you'd think there were checks in placeto make sure money didn't go out that shouldn't have. Especially if they were bonus checks, people may have thought the bonuses were better than normal as a way to compensate them some for everything else that is going on. ????

I think the problem in this case is that people are looking at it as a Christmas present from the company. DH gets a year end bonus almost every year but no one ever knows how much, if or when. We were very surprised in December when they announced there would be a bonus in the next check. But the way they phrased the speech made it sound like a "present" when it was just a bonus based on profit percentage. DH's work has never given out "presents", just profit sharing. Unfortunately, the people crunching the numbers made a goof and sent out too much money. Legally, everyone has to return the mistaken excess funds. But not everyone plans too. I'm skeptical that the company will care about pursuing to collect $100-200 from a hundred people. But I wouldn't want that footnote on my work record. Not only is DH staying with the company, but he'd want a great recommendation from them if he chose to move on. It's surprising to me that others would trade that for $100.

My hubby is a CPA, so I leave it all up to him. I know we are gonna owe this year bc I work as an independent contractor and have to pay self employment tax. Hoping he can find some ways to save us from paying too much
