If you've had anybody mention it in public, do they normally think LO is older, right on, or younger than they really are? Of course I know a lot of people who aren't around kids a lot are often WAY off, but I'm just curious.

Yesterday at Target, Teresa was in her carrier seat in the cart because she had been asleep when we got there. After a bit she woke up and while in the check out line, she was jabbering up a storm. I noticed the lady in front of us watching her and then she finally asked me how old she was. She said she was really confused because she was "talking" so well, but then saw that she was in the little seat still so she had no clue how old she was.

She's finally gotten a little bigger in the past month and is over 21 lbs now, but most people still assume she's younger than she really is.

^^Man, how do you lug that carrier seat around!! I'm so jealous she is able to be in that still tho, it makes some things a lot easier!

I'm not sure either way, they just ask how old she is and I tell them. No one really seems surprised so I think she probably looks her age. She is 24 pounds and probably around 33 inches so I'm thinking that's probably average.

Lately, people seem to think Max is younger, or at least, everyone calls him "the baby" if we are at the park or playing somewhere. I blame his baldness

Same here! And BTW Nichole, Eli passed up Grace We had a check up today and he was 25lb 8oz and 33 in
However, I will say that most people are amazed at how much he talks and runs around for only being 16 months. He doesn't LOOK older though.

i think Kaylee looks her age too. She's 24.5lbs and 33.5 " although that was at her 15 mo. appt and she's 18 months now

lil B is a bit shorter than a lot of the kids in his class - but now he speaks and talks a lot better than most of them who wadda thought. He also is really good at recognition - stop signs and what they mean, what the lights of the stop lights mean, shapes, colors, some letters and numbers etc. But he's pretty much a non stop talker now so for that part people get curious as to how old he is.

I just measured Elaina. She's exactly 34" and 27 pounds. Everyone thinks she is older. They are always saying "what is she, about 2?" I say, "no, she's 16 months" and usually they will either say "wow, she's big" or "wow, she has a lot of hair for 16 months!" I think her hair makes her look older.

It's not too bad, it does make things easier sometimes. Like when we are going into the Y and she falls asleep on the way there I keep her in it. So I am lugging her, my purse, my gym bag, and the diaper bag and making sure Lukas doesn't run out into the parking lot. But it is easier than carrying her when she's squirmy or trying to let her walk and risk her stepping in puddles or mud that we've had lately. I'm sure I'm a funny sight to most people. Of course I have to bite my tongue when I see the single person(meaning without kids there) walking out to their car in a prime spot right in front after I've lugged everything from far away. Plus on days like today where she fell asleep on the way home from the library, I just bring the seat in and she'll keep sleeping.

I agree about the hair making kids look older! That could be another reason I think Teresa looks a bit younger-her hair is still very fine and she doesn't have that much compared to the girls in our PR.

I also think that when strangers tell their kids to be careful around "the baby" it helps the kids understand better than if they said to be careful around the little boy/girl. Somehow the word baby makes them realize they need to be more careful, does that make sense?

Younger. I think he's just kind of smaller for his age. TBH we missed his 15 month check up, but I'd guess he's 23 pounds. People seem to be surprised when they see him running around bc they assumed he was younger.

That makes a lot of sense, Kris! I always try to let other parents know that I'm not worried about their kids with Max. I hate to think that they feel the need to keep nagging their kids about playing nice, and Max isn't shy about trying to tackle bigger kids anyway

I've gotten a few comments that Michael looks older than he really is. I think it's because he is so tall (which is so weird since I'm short and dh is average height).

I think most guess him close to age. He's 17 months now, and they usually guess 18-24 months, depending on how he's doing that day I'm HORRIBLE at guessing ages, even with 2 kids, so I don't even bother, I just ask

100% of people think he is younger than he is.... I think some people hear me give him an instruction and look at me werid, then he does what I asked... then they ask me how old he is..... I say how old he is... then they compare him to their baby (or someone they know) and say wow!!!! (they compare him to someone atleast 6-10 months younger than him)
I will admit that cus his language is behind it helps that people dont have the misconception that he is older than he is... just cus their expectations would be higer then

(I get why people compare him though.... my friends baby is 10 months younger than him and weights 3 pounds more than G and is only 1é2 inch shorter)

Gavin is only 28.5 inches though, and I am guessing he might be 19 pounds now!

We just got Myles hair cut and people now think he is older than he is. He's a big guy though - 28 - 29 lbs and decent height. He's a whole head taller than his "friend" at daycare and he's only a month younger than him.

Betsy doesn't get told that she looks older, but she gets a lot of "she's so big" comments. She's about the size of Elaina and she also has a lot of hair. She's the second youngest in her daycare class but she doesn't look any younger than the other kids.

Older. I think it's because of how social and attentive he is because he's not that big of little dude. I think it's around 25lbs maybe (I can't remember how much he was at his last appt). People always think he's close to 2! Nope he's still my baby!!!

People tend to think she's older. Which surprises me because she is not big for her age. But people will say oh she looks about the same age as so and so... who is 20-24 months and surprised when I tell them she's just 16 months.

Everyone usually pinpoints Fairfax to be her correct age. She still has that baby look thy all seem to lose by 2.
Except this weekend. We went to a Super Bowl party where there were 3 toddlers in Faira's age group(13 months- tiny and still military crawling, 16 months-small and only just starting to pull up to standing, 24 months but same height and hair length and general abilities as F). In that group, F was assumed to be the age of the oldest in the group which was 2 years old.

I always got older with emmie

and now we are getting older with jackson - when I tell them how old he is they always reply with he is such a big boy... shoot - he is a peanut compared to where Emmie was at that age...

Jackson may weigh 25 lb now at 17 months --- Emmie was probably close to 30 by then. She is 3 and 40lb

ALLLLLWAYS older. It's because of his skillset and how social he is I think...Oh and that hair adds years I guess.

Actually, my niece Ava (who is 4 in march) was over on Sunday, as was Ella (10days older than Jay). Ava ran into the kitchen and said to me "Gemma... Me and Jayden are pretending to be little babies like Ella is"... She sees Jayden as closer to her age than Ella, even though Ella is older!
