So... it fits now and everyone's happy DH runs around calling her Kerris May all the time, so I think it's wearing on him and he's liking it! Kensley LOVES her name and calls her it all the time. Kellen, of course, can't say it! He just runs to her and points.

Here's the little funny (kind of)... though...

You know how much time I spent on this name and the spelling variations to get the best spelling for proper pronunciation, right? Sigh

We went to the lab to get her blood draw thing done that we have to do between 8-14 days old. The lady looked at her name to call us up and said, hesitantly, "uh... kur-EES?" I thought, SERIOUSLY?! Ug. Then, casually said, "no. CARE-iss"

I guess it's going to be like this forever I swear, she looked like she could have been close to my age. Has she NEVER seen or heard of Ferris Bueller?! JUST LIKE THAT!

lol So funny! I absolutely LOVE her name! The thing is, though, I pronounce both Kerris and Ferris differently than you do.. I also probably pronounce Paris differently than you do because I remember you saying that Kerris rhymes with Paris.. Not the way I say them!

I say "KEH-riss" and "FEH-riss" and when I say "Paris," the a sounds like the a in "cat."

to me, that's pretty close, Brooke... I'd not notice the difference, really, in conversation. That's just a demographic difference in accent, I think. Sometimes, my "e" pronunciation in her name is a hair softer, like you say... Saying it as you say vs the "care" sound, I barely hear a difference... Or like the difference between Gwynne (Gwin) and Gwen... not a big difference. But, she was WAAAY off.

OK... Brooke, you have me paranoid that I'm pronouncing my own kids' name wrong So... I went on line and looked to see the pronunciation of Ferris (basically same pronunciation with an F instead of a K) and they ALL are either listing it as Fair-riss or F-eh-r-iss... and when I listen to the audio, I can NOT tell the difference between the audios I've listened to them a million times! So, I think I'm saying it the same as most everyone else I just don't know how to explain it in writing, phonetically

Anyway, it's the perfect, beautiful name nonetheless!

People are always spelling Elisabeth wrong -- they always assume it's with a "z". Poor Betsy will have to spend her life always correcting people too.

I love her name! Cohen would have been Layla Carys if he had been a girl. My whole family couldn't figure out how to say Carys either. Buuuut then again they say "Rice" for Rhys.
