I am sure you have all guessed I am pretty goal oriented person. I stick to my NY resolutions like they were life or death! I have always made long-term goals for myself both professionally and personally.
Now that I am 12 years out of college, I realized my 10 year goal at that time was a little unattainable, but also, looking back 12 years I never would have imagined myself being a Technology Integration Specialist. So, I know to be flexible, but goals drive me to be not only a better mommy but a better person.
Does anyone else do this? Would you like to share if you do?

Nope. I don't do it. Probably why I'm not crazy successful. It would just stress me out.

I set broad goals personally for us as a family. I think the majority of these are more financial than anything else, tho. For example by the end of the year I'd like to have all of our house updates complete with only the kitchen left to tackle. By the end of the year I'd like to start saving up for a new family car and start really focusing on getting DH's student debts paid off in full ahead of time. Things like that

I do! I have personal goals (usually weight oriented) professional goals (income, expanding skillsets...) and business goals (travel, profit, expansion...) and I typically reach them. Sometimes it takes a bit more to hit them, thanks to life, but I don't let them sit I have family goals, but they are simpler and sometimes harder to attain, as they involve the WHOLE family and some *ahem* are not as goal oriented as I.

I wish I was more goal oriented!! I mean, I have career goals, but I have like 10 different paths I'd be happy taking, so I set a goal for all of them. I was talking about this last night. I have a pretty set path for the "Me and Max" plan with lots of short term and long term goals there, but then I have plan B if it ever ends up not being just me and Max, and that is a lot hazier.

Yeah, even if I set goals, I always give myself an "unless God has other plans" clause.

I'm a pretty go with the flow personality so I don't have time-frames exactly for long term goals just ideas of what I'd like to see in our future, if that makes sense?
I'd love to buy a house in the near future.
I'd love to start up my career in the near future.
I really want to pay off our car as soon as possible.
I want an English Mastiff to grow up with our kids.
I want to take a Euro-trip with DH, just us two.
On the other hand, I realize that sometimes the best things in life are the ones we don't plan. Things can change in an instant or better options could open up sooner than we thought.
I totally get the goal oriented/5 year plan mentality, I just think its not "me".
I do love short term goals though

I do have more short term goals, 1 or 2 years. Career-This year we want to add 700 more cattle to the feedlot, payoff the m/c and some other loans, buy more land.
Family- Homeschool the kids this year, get kyren caught up in reading and math.
Personal- weight is a big one.

I also set goals, hence my long list of NY resolutions.
It does seem that a lot of the goals depend on our financial situation. For instance, a goal for my family is to focus more on experiences with them rather than focus on buying stuff for them. So that means we need money for vacations, museum/zoo memberships, etc. I know some things can be free though-trips to the park, bike rides, etc so we do those too. I want to always be able to let them try various classes/sports to see if there is one or 2 things they really find an interest in. I mean, how can you know you like it until you really try it?
Another goal is to make sure hubby never has to give up his airplane. So that means we scrimp in some areas to be able to splurge in that area.
Another goal is to be able to help our kids with college more than our parents were able to. Our parents were only able to provide enough to pay for our books. We covered the rest-tuition, living expenses-including cars, car insurance, etc. While we definitely learned a lot about being independent, we hope we can provide a little more cushion for our kids. Our plan is that when I start working again we will split up that extra money into paying off the house early, having money for their college, and putting extra to retirement.

Our lives have been so unpredictable we just fly by the seat of our pants The only goals we manage are financial. If we make other goals they're like Kelli said....someday goals.

I don't set goals, probably should. I have an idea in my mind where I'd like to be. Maybe I should work on this...starting making actual goals. I'll make that a goal!

Right now, I have two long term major goals: move out of this way-too-small townhouse in the next few years and to save up enough money so that I can take a year's leave of absence when Betsy starts kindergarten (so that we're not financially impacted at all). DH handles to "big" stuff like our retirement and Betsy's college funds, so I know those things are in good hands.
I have lots of little goals -- be more productive, learn to let go of things, stuff like that. The little things that will make life easier and hopefully better.

I quit having goals once I reached them all or gave up on them. Some I realized can't happen, but some did.
I now like to live by the seat of my pants. My next goal is to get all the kids out and have a great retirement. As baby is climbing on me pulling my hair, I'm super looking forward to this one.

This is a very interesting question. I do have goals When I was 34 I did a scrapbooking page on my goals. The only one I managed was the one that I thought was impossible! The other goals no longer even seem important. Thus is the story of my life, it changes so much that looking back just five years from any point I could have never imagined ending up where I do.

No goals. I wish I were more goal-oriented. Probably would make life a little easier.
