Kelli's fab zoo animal pics on FB got me thinking!
What animals can your toddler identify?
Does he/she identify them by picking them out if shown multiple animals and you name one (ex: which one is the dog?) or does he/she identify them by naming each one without you first giving them the word? (Hope that makes sense!)
I have an animal NUT on my hands. I don't even know how many animals he can identify (he can identify them in all the ways you described), he surprises me all the time with how much he knows.
The other day he saw a pink cartoon bird and said "That's a lamingo". I didn't even know he knew what that was...
He knows all the standard pets (dog, cat, bird, mouse, fish, bunny), jungle animals (monkey, gorilla, snake, parrot), zoo animals (giraffe, elephant, zebra, lion, tiger, wolf, hippo, rhino, turtle, bear, panda), farm animals (cow, pig, horse, goat, sheep, chicken, rooster), plus some random ones (deer, shark, whale, camel, moose, gator, dino, owl, frog, lizard, spider, lady bug, roach).
He has always had a big interest in animals though - thus the zoo themed party. He is going freak out with excitement!!

This animal concept seems to be really hard for my sweet boy Sometimes it seems like he gets them right when I ask but other times he doesnt get hardly any right
She will tell you that a dog is a "duff", a sheep is a "baa baa", and will say "owl". We've caught her saying "bat" and "weasel" as well! We're working on big and little (well, she can't say little, so little things are "baby") so she'll say "big duff" when she sees a big dog.
If you ask her about other animals, she can point them out in a book.

OH, my... I'm not sure what he knows and doesn't The basics I KNOW he knows: cow, deer, bear, dog, cat (kitty), horse (and, according to him, the giraffe is a horse too ), bird, fish, dinosaur, bunny and elephant... those are the definites.

Max is like Eli, he's animal crazy. He's great at sounds, getting lots better at names. And like Gideon, his favorite is probably a dinosaur, although he's also especially fond of cows, moose, and lately camel.
I just posted a picture of Luke doing animal sounds on FB.
He loves making animal sounds. He can pointed to most any animal we have read in books. He will let me read to him for 30-45 minutes straight and most his favorite books have animals in them. So, if it's in his books, he knows it. Now, because of his speech delays, he's not saying the name of the animals just yet, but I am okay with that. I am just happy he knows most of the sounds!

That video was so cute! It's awesome that he will let you read to him for that long! My kids NEVER let me read to them until about age 3. Before that they insisted on holding a book themselves and turning the pages when they wanted too! That shows he has so much desire to learn, the speech will get there!
Teresa can identify by picking it out or by naming: cat, dog, horse, cow, pig, sheep, goat, chicken, dinosaur, bird, parrot, duck, goose, bunny, giraffe and zebra she mixes up sometimes, any insect is a bug, elephant, any big cat is a tiger, anything in the water is a fish, and any monkey-like thing is a monkey.

It definitely has to be pre-approved by Luke before we even open it. I have read the same 15 books about 9 billion times. If he doesn't approve of the book, he'll do the same things Kris, just turn pages to get to the end and then throw the book on the floor! LOL!

Awww...y'all are so sweet. I especially liked the part where I snorted like a pig about 15 times.
