You can get them from your doctor or you can buy them over-the-counter. They are usually just called pre-natal vitamins - I got mine from Wal-Mart. Another option some ladies take is to take a regular multi-vitamin tablet and a folic acid supplement.
When we decided to start trying to have a baby I went in for my appt and the Dr. gave me some prenatal vitamins to try and then she wrote us a prescription. I went to fill the prescription and they were out so the nurse told me that it was fine to take a Women's One a Day while we are "trying". She said once I find out I"m pregnant to switch over to a prescription prenatal vitamin. The good thing is that the One a day Womens are much cheaper than the prescription prenatal ones.
I hope that helps! Good luck TTC!

Nope you don't need a prescription for them, you can buy them over the counter! They are very important to take while ttc,,, well folic acid is in general,, I'm glad you are already planning to start taking them!
I take Promise Stages prenatals and started them a month before we started trying. I hate taking pills but these are nice and small. And they have diff. vit. for whichever trimester you are in. From preconception to the 3rd trimester. I ordered mine off biotegrity.com.

For those that take prenatals...I haven't gone looking to see what's in them, but I do take Oil of Olay vitamins:
Woman's Multivitamin, Folic Acid w/B12 complex, and Super B stress defense. I get a wide cover of everything but calcium (250mg) I thought I had read that Pre-Natals have a lot of calcium in them, like 1k-2k mg and that it's good for women. Do you think I should also take some calcium pills, and/or what else could I be adding that would put me on par with pre-natals.
Either that, or should I just go take pre-natals also? Thanks so much for your help!
