Hi, I'm 19 years old and my partner and I have been trying to conceive our first child for over 2 years. Due to the fact that I'm only 19 I'm not to sure whether doctors will be keen to help us out and we don't know what to do. We want a baby so so much. I was just wondering if anybody else is in the same situation and can give me some advice? Alanna.

hi Alanna and welcome!!! I would try to go to an obgyn... I think if you find the right one they will help figure out whats going on... and hopefully be able to get you your BFP!!! (big fat positive) I think that is really the only way you can find out what is really going on... because there are SOOOOOO many reasons for infertility... good luck!!

Welcome Alanna. I would say that since you have been trying for 2 years you should definitely talk to your Dr. Did you bring it up at your last appt?

I would talk to an obgyn also. I don't see any reason why they wouldn't help you out because of your age, it's not like you're underage or anything. Good luck!

You may not be underage, but that doesn't mean covert ageism will not be an obstacle. I would personally try to get help without specifically mentioning that you are TTC. Do you have irregular cycles, or any other symptoms that something could be wrong? Bad pain on your period? Acne? Short luteal phase (time after ovulation)? You're going to have to be your own advocate, so I would start reading as much as possible and chart your cycles with your basal body temperatures in order to get to the bottom of this. Start by checking out Taking Charge of Your Fertility at your local library, that is basically all the information you need to know in one place. Good luck!

Hi, thank you so much for all your comments! Well after the first few months of trying and nothing happening I started researching problems with conceiving on the internet. I've spent endless hour's reading about every possible problem and I have used ovulation calenders every month. I went to my doctors a few week's ago and they did a few basic tests and everything came back normal. I have now been referred to an infertility clinic but it will be a few week's before I get an appointment. I'm just hoping that they will treat me the same as they would any other woman and not take my young age into consideration too much! It's awful not knowing what could be wrong with either of us as we are young and obviously you just assume that older women and men are the only people that could have problems conceiving.

Have you ever tried fertility charting? It will help you pinpoint exactly what day you ovulate so you can be sure to time BD properly. There is a fertility charting forum on here that will have tons of information for you. I know for a fact from being involved in that forum and looking at lot's of womens charts that the typical halfway through your cycle that the ovulation calenders predict for you is NOT the case for TONS of women!

Hi, I'm Danee and me and DH are both 21. I've been ttc since I was 19 as well. I had the same concerns as you because I found out at an early age that I had endo. So I knew this was going to be a challenge and that's why I decided to start young. I understand completely where you're coming from. The biggest issue I faced was having them take me seriously. So, I documented everything that was going on. I used to temp and I had all the graphs from every month that I temped to take into the appointments with me. I wrote down everything!!! I wrote down when I got positive OPKs and when we BD. Once you show them that your actively trying and this isn't just a I want a baby for some odd reason, they'll wake up and go okay let's do this. I didn't have an issue after that.

Hey sweetie welcome I agree with everything that has been said! I think you would benefit from fertility charting and reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility. If you go to your appointment armed with information, I think they will take you seriously regardless of your age. Lots of luck and KUP!!!!
