ugh. So here I am at work...DH had his latest SA today...I just texted him and he said "We'll talk when you get home" "I got good news and bad news"...

UGH!

it's only 3:30 - I dont' leave for another hour and a half...

I just have this awful feeling that our ONLY option is going to be IVF...and that IUI isn't an option...which we won't have the $$ for for another YEAR! (or more)...

I'm very impatient and DH won't text me any news like this...he'd rather wait til I get home.

I hate when I get news like that and DH won't tell me anything!
My fingers are crossed that you still can do IUI.

so...the GOOD NEWS...is this.
His numbers have improved for his motility (speed) which was at 31 and 37 from his first two SA's up to 66 and his morphology (shape), which WAS at 0% is now at 5.3%!!

so yes, that is VERY good news...

The BAD NEWS...is that his volume (total amount) and count have not improved at all and are still at around 1.5 volume and 5.1 count

for those who don't understand...the wikipedia link is:
Semen analysis - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

and the "normal" perameters should be:

volume >2.0
Motility >50%
Morphology >15%
Total cc >20 million

DH's is:
volume 1.5 (needs to be over 2.0)
motility 66% (up from 31%)
Morph 5.3% (up from 0%!!!!)
Total cc 5.1 (needs to be over 20 million...)

So he needs to talk to his boss tomorrow and explain everything...his doc basically told him we have TWO options...obviously the first being IVF, which I told him insurance will NOT cover (nor will it cover IUI, but IUI is MUCH cheaper...) and the other option - which he is thinking a lot about tonight...and has to talk to his boss about...is having the Varicocele surgery. NOT having the surgery, our only option is IVF...with the surgery, it would increase our chances and in about 6 months (or so) after the surgery, then IUI would at least possibly be an option, but without the surgery, our only option is IVF.

Varicocele, Male Fertility and Infertility

I honestly have nothing AGAINST IVF...it's just that our insurance won't pay for ANY procedures...(although I believe it will pay for the vericocele procedure).

Not that he WANTS to have surgery on his um...well....PENIS (there, i said it! ) but seriously though...what man wants to have surgery there? ya know? however, he is willing to do whatever we need to do.

He did ask a couple times "you're POSITIVE IVF isn't covered?" yes. 100% sure.

so yes...good news AND bad news...

BUT at least we are moving in A direction. and he would be having it done pretty much immediately...since this is his slow time at work - but he'd HAVE to be "out" of work for 2 weeks...however he'd still try to at least be at work, answering phones, and whatnot, but absolutely NO strenuous activity what.so.ever.

You're definitely moving in the RIGHT direction... not just A direction.

And now you know all of your options and exactly where you stand. And you also know that the Clomid and everything else DH is doing is helping!

Keep us posted with what you and DH decide to do.

absolutely! I am going to call my doc in the morning though...just because - since I DO have one blocked tube...I need to see if maybe there's anything we can do on my end - make sure we have ALL our bases covered.
