Dr just called with results of hubby's SA from last week. She said he has a "low count", but didn't give any other details. No numbers or anything. She told him to call the PCM to make an appointment to get a referral to a urologist. I don't see why she just couldn't have put in the referral right then, but whatever. *sigh* Not sure what to do now. It was just one sample, so I'm hoping that if he gives another sample, it will come back normal. Do they do that? Or do they just make a diagnosis from one sample? He made an appointment with the PCM for Friday. We still have our appointment with the fertility clinic on the 19th. I'm ovulating now... hoping for a miracle...

Sorry to hear that. I know there are a couple other girls on here who can give you way more advice/feedback. At least you know your problem now and can move in the direction to address it. Depending on the levels, I know that changes to diet and habits can help tremendously.

My sister's DH had a low sperm count, but otherwise okay motility, morphology, etc. The doctor told him to switch to boxers, lay off the long and hot showers, cut back on caffeine, cut back on smoking. He did all of that and started a multi-vitamin, and it boosted his levels.

Im sure the Urologist will ask for another sample... you could have him take FertlieAid for Men! I hear GREAT things about that! http://www.amazon.com/FertilAid-Men-...6147586&sr=8-1

I hope the Urologist will have other options for you guys... and I hope its just his first sample and the next one will be better!

I'm so sorry to hear that. At least you have an answer and can start working on getting his count up.

first off

we are mainly dealing with MFI (male factor infertility)...DH has had 3 SA's - first two with low EVERYTHING and even 0 % morphology...

1st SA (June 2011)
Volume 1.5 (should be >2.0)
Motility 31% (should be >50%)
Morphology 0% (should be >15%)
Total cc 5.1 (should be >20 million)

His urologist put him on Clomid, which as really helped! His motility is looking good and I'm happy that his morphology has at least gone up! granted, it's still low (5%) but the fact that it's gone up from 0!!

3rd SA (December 2011)
Volume 1.5 (should be >2.0)
Motility 66%!! (should be >50%)
Morphology 5%!! (should be >15%, but hey, it raised from 0!)
Total cc 5.1 (should be >20 million)

Now his urologist wants him to have the Varicocele surgery - which only has a 50% success rate (DH has a varicose vein which is one of the "issues"... here's info on Varicoceles - Varicocele Symptoms and Signs of Varicoceles

We have our first RE appt on Jan 24 to see what - if any - other options we have...but if not, then the surgery it'll have to be. (I just honestly don't know if I want him to have it...)

BUT again - him being on the clomid HAS helped a few of his numbers - so who knows? maybe the clomid will eventually help enough that we can do IUI without the varicocele surgery!

I will try to help you with any questions you may have - but I don't pretend to really know that much...I just read a lot on the 'net!

I'm sorry. From what I read they may take two samples before determining if he has a low sperm count for sure, it is possible to have a "bad batch" sort to speak. KUP if you find out any more.

Yeah, I just want to ditto this. Sometimes a simple infection can make sperm count low, which can be remedied by antibiotics to treat the infection.

They always take 2 samples because there are many things that can factor into a sample. So, kind of weird they want you to get a referral before running another test... But, hopefully it was a 1 off and things are ok!
